whats wrong??? she didnt have this b4--shes had kindney/bladder problems since she was 2-shes 9 now-. it looks like a razor blade cut 100 lines in each nail. maybe this could be the answer to her kidneys???? no one knows why she gets those infections. have u ever seen nails like that?? does anyone know a site that has things about body issues/nails??

sammy isnt chewinf her wood chews, and her teeth is long. i could tell because when i watch her yawn i see those teeth0.o.also sammy needs to get her nails cut cuz shes looks like a hamster version of wolverine.. im not doind that myself cuz i am afraid i will break sammy's fingers. the nearest pet vet is a pet emergency hosital not a real vet tho. but can they still help my hammy?How can i get my hamster sam nails cut or teeth nawed down?

Any small animal vet can cut a hamster's nails. I would call the emergency clinic to see if they do routine things like that. If you know any knowledgeable hamster friends, they can probably show you how to trim nails. For the teeth try some gnaw-toys other than wood blocks. There are some flavored wood chews hamsters are supposed to love. If the teeth-problem is severe you can get the hamster's teeth cut by a vet (at least you can for rabbits, so I assume you can for hamsters). Good luck!

If your dog is truly distressed by having her nails clipped, maybe taking her in to the groomer for the first few times will help. They're trained to deal with this. It will be less frustrating for you and her, and rather than risking the possibility of cutting the quick while she's struggling, let the groomer get her used to the idea of having her feet manipulated.

I usually put one of those Nylon muzzles on mine and it calms them right down. I used to work vor a vet and also raised dogs before, so of course I have to clip all my relatives and friends dog's nails . Lol.

The groomers will often muzzle them too, because dogs may bite you out of fear.

If you don't feel comfortable about the trimming, just bring her to pet smart or a vet....it will make the dog freak even more next time if you cut the nails too short by accident

just clip one nail a day so that she gets used to it and is not afraid. also, have you trained your dog to ';settle'; when restrained?
They never like it. You just hold her under your arm with her face to the front holding the body tightly against you and take the paw out . do it qucikly but carefully and ignore the screams.

personally, i pay someone else to do my dog as i am too pathetic to hear her crying . They can get used to it especially if you give them the tastiest treat ever afterwards
one has to be extremely careful when doing this. unless you have done this before, i wouldn't do it. if you cut the nail to short and it bleeds you could cause a bad infection. please take the dog to the vet.
Practice, practice, and some more practice.

Do air clipping first, 1 toe a day. Make her sit in front of you or on your lap and grap a toe with some force, and simply clip the air. After she sits thru that, give her a treat right away and PRAISE!

Next day, do another. Keep working on it till you can get her to sit thru almost all 10 toes thru air clipping, or just actually clip one nail a day until they're all done, and I say that because most puppies will have a hard time sitting there for all ten toes, exp. when you have to be so careful with it, it could take at least a half hour or so.

you havent said what kind or how big/small she is. I have a lab. I have to hold her with (in between) my legs with her head behind me. Then clip the nails. I always talk to her and tell her she is a good girl while I clip. then when I am done I will give her a treat of somekind.

You got two great, creative and experienced bands which are both good song writers and live performers.

System a Down are a band where all members contribute to the songs and all have strong musical knowledge.They have created there own sound and once they come out of hiatus I have no doubt they will deliver another great album.

Nine inch Nails are a 1 man band (other than live) that as good as they are, only ever came out with one memorable album. I am talking about the Downward spiral although I even find that hard to listen to as I am no longer in the mood for listening to it. It is much more heavy music lyrically and musically speaking and much more of an aquired taste.

I rarely listen to either these days but I am much more likely to look out for the next System album as I know it will be of a high standard unlike many Nine Inch Nails albums.

They are both good but system wins.

I have an Uncle who they thought was dead, who actually dug his way out of his coffin after the funeral.
I read about some guy who had a phone installed in his coffin because he was afraid of being buried before he was really dead and waking up after being buried.

There used to be problems with grave robbers who would dig up dead bodies and steal valuables that they were buried with, I would assume that is the reason that the lids of coffins are traditionally nailed shut.

Oh that's tickled me... that's such a good question. In practice its probably because of moving the coffin around and how unpleasant it is when you drop one and see a rotting corpse roll on to the ground in front of their family and loved ones.

I sometimes think I'd like to be buried in thin chipboard in case it was just a really, really deep sleep.

Apparently one study showed a fair percentage (can't quantify sorry, I simply can't remember) of coffins from people buried in the 1800's had scratch marks made from the inside - horrific thought, isn't it?
Just in cause they decide to try and come back to life. lol I'm not really sure.
It was originally done to deter animals from carrying off the remains.
I think it's more to keep people OUT.

My hamster is coming up for one and she has loads of wooden blocks and mineral stones in her cage and I regularly feed her carrot and she still seems to bite me. When i first got her she never used to bite me and I handle her every day so its not like shes lost contact with me. I thought maybe the reason she was biting me was because her teeth are getting too long. I always wash my hands before handling her aswell so it isn't as if my hands smell of food. Also how can i get her to file her own nails because i've noticed their getting long and i dont want to have to take her to the vet to get them done if they get too long.How can i get my hamster to file down her teeth and nails?

put a block of wood [ buy it from petco/smart just to make sure its animal safe] and it will knaw on it and its teeth will get filed down. with his nails, you either have to learn how to clip them without cutting the quick [the red/pink part inside the nails] for it is filled with many nerve endings and will hurt him if you cut it.

OR take him to a vet and have his nails clipped, it should be extremely inexpensive.

Put a rough surface like a granite rock for her to climb on in her cage to solve the nail problem. Hamsters usually regulate the length of their teeth by themselves, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. You should also make sure that your soap doesn't have a scent that is very strong or that could be appetizing to your little hamster. You should also consider the possibility that she isn't fully tamed. Does she seem to be aggressive or hungry when she bites you?
sound to me like your doing everything your supposed to do, hampsters do bite sometimes,but she could have a dental problem that is preventing her from grooming herslf. DO NOT PUT HER IN A BATH. they have dry shampoo if she needs cleaning but if you keep her cage very clean they will clean themselves,the cage needs cleaned daily for one if more than one in a cage, 2x a day
I'm not sure about the nails, but I do know that she isn't biting you because her teeth are too long. it's because she's uncomfortable. when I got my first hamster, she bit like crazy. then a week later she had 2 babies and stopped doing that.
When she bites ya she's probably just trying to figure out who u r. Some hamsters figure who u r by smelling or biting. As for her nails u can put a gentle sand paper where she walks in her cage. It works.
I don't know about hamsters but my guinea pigs love to chew on apple bark, you could try that. Replace it when all the bark is gone.

Well, I don't paint my nails very often, maybe once every 3 or four months, and I probably get them done at a nail place maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Probably 10 minutes cause I have to file the tops perfectly and put on the nail polish and then the clear nail polish that makes it smooth and shiny. And then they have to dry.

I only do my nails when I have something coming up. Like a wedding or a party or an interview, etc.

Otherwise I don't give a fcuk what my nails look like.
I'm supposed to put this thing that makes my cuticles stronger about every week. I cut when ever it bends. I file if I have the chance, too. And sometimes I buff my nails.
Hmm...well I get a manicure every Sunday and then I also touch up my cuticles maybe every two or three days.
About 3 times a week, for about 10 to 20 minutes.

Yesterday I put on some fresh polish. Took me about five minutes. I don't care at all about my nails.
well i really dont do my nails much X) but when i do i usally just put a fresh coat of clear nail polish on my fingers. takes about 2 mins.
i only ever spend time on my nails when they're too long and i have to cut them. other than that, no nail polish for me. ^^
well a few days ago it took me an hour to totally do my nails but usually i dont spend any time painting them.
I don't do my nails, I just trim them every three weeks or so (my nails dont grow that fast)

I can't add much to the answerer above. Yes, check Fixed and Things Falling Apart too. These are the 3 main ';remix'; albums, which Trent Reznor prefers calling manipulations. And he's right, since these are rather new songs using the elements of the original tracks. These manipulations also help a lot in interpreting the original songs, but they give a whole new experience. It's really fun to listen to them.

Personally, I don't like much Further Down the Spiral, but 'The Art of Self Destruction, Part One' and 'The Downward Spiral (The Bottom)' are good ones.

i think further down the spiral is good. it's mainly just a bunch of remixes of the songs from the downward spiral, so of course it's going to sound different. so it all depends if you like remixes.

I have a 13 year old, spayed female Choc. Lab who's had a life-long obsession with eating anything that's not nailed down or that doesn't eat her first. She's had surgery once for an obstruction caused by a tube sock and been hospitalized recently for 3 days for a partial obstruction from eating dried corn husks that blew into her run. She will steal tissues right out of the box, eat plastic wrappers, swallow all sorts of clothing (without even putting a tooth mark or hole in them), has ingested small batteries and even eaten an alarm clock and a calculator. To keep her from eating stuff, I have to watch her like a hawk in the house and she now goes outside with a muzzle on. Even with that, she's found a way to continue eating inedible things and, as if the other things aren't bad enough, she's suddenly taken to eating large quantities of marble-sized rocks!! She passes 5 or 6 of them with each BM...often passing the half dozen rocks 2-4 times a day!

Over the years, I've tried treating objects with all sorts of bitter, sour and/or spicy sprays, powders and pastes and it only seems to make the objects even MORE enticing to her. I'm at the end of my rope as I'm certain this habit will result, sooner rather than later, in yet another obstruction that she might not pull through at such an advanced age. Is there any hope of breaking my dog's life-long pica habit and how can I do it?Older dog eats EVERYTHING (edible or not) that's not nailed down!!!?
Sounds like a lab. Maybe she has some compulsions, have you ever tried any medications, like xanaz or prozac? These are both used in dogs for anxiety disorders which may be at the root of your dogs behavior. You have just describe my dog Quilo PERFECTLY! (when he was a puppy and middle aged dog) - he and his brother between them made a hole they could fit through through our living room to stair WALL (will admit the wall was thin - but it WASN'T plaster board or similar, it WAS solid!) and destroyed our sofa (I'm sure we had more cushions, legs and arms to that chair) it was a THREE SEATER SOFA with mostly wooden frame - it was unusable after that.

He still eats our clothes and a few of my toys / pieces of coursework (miss the dog ate my homework!) but ever since I got annoyed and covered one of my teddy's in salt, left it in the middle of the room and waited for him to eat it his 'swallow things I shouldn't' attitude has decreased dramatically. The result of the salt (a WHOLE packet was a VERY sick dog for a few days literally and metafolcly) :)

The deck board can't be pounded up %26amp; off because it hits the siding, and the nails are inaccessible. I can't cut the boards at the edge of the siding %26amp; chip out what's left because I plan to resurface %26amp; reinstall them (nope, can't do it with the boards in place).

Any ideas on how I can remove the boards intact without removing or destroying the siding, or dropping the header?

I'd also use a reciprocating saw with a ';demolition'; blade. This blade will cut through nails as well as anything else in encounteres.

A way to re-secure the board when you replace it is to drill pocket holes at an angle to allow you to use screws from beyond the edge of the siding. Putty up the pocket holes with the appropriate colored putty when you're done.

Don't really understand your drawing, but, can you cut the nails with a reciprocating saw. We use them all the time for cutting nails rather than pulling them.
using a sawsall with a bimetal blade cut the nails between the board and the header or using a flat pry bar up against the nail at the same location slam the bar untill the nail bends far enough or snaps
What I would do is use a sawzall (a reciprocating saw) with a long blade to cut the nails from underneath. If you don't have access to sawzall then try a long pry-bar. Start at one end with the pry-bar and work your way down. Depending on what kind of siding it is depends on how you take it off the board. If its vinyl you can get a siding removal tool sometimes called a sideswiper and unattach the 2nd course from the first course (it just snaps together). If its wood or Masonite siding you can try removing it without destroying it. Steel or aluminum could possibly be removed or you could try to get the board out from underneath by prying up and prying away from the house. Its just a matter of looking at it and seeing what best fits. Oh also if you remove your siding, mark it or remember where it went for re-installation.

You need to desensitize him to having his paws handled. Most dogs are not fond of people messing with their feet, so before going at him with the nail clippers, you need to spend some time showing him that touching his feet is no big deal. Next time you are just sitting around watching TV, get some dog treats and sit down next to your dog. Touch his foot a little and give him a treat. Gradually over a few days, keep doing this and handling his feet a little more each time, going from just touching them with one finger to actually holding onto his foot with your whole hand. Once he's become comfortable with you handling his feet, you can try clipping again, but take it slow. It takes me about 15 minutes to clip my bloodhound's nails because he really isn't that fond of the process and I have to clip a nail, then let him chill out for a second, the clip another. try some peanut butter in a Kong toy or on a spoon or on a dog cookie. It's really typical of pup this age to be wild !!

be patient %26amp; even if you can do 1 nail at THAT sitting, praise him %26amp; try again later. don't ever force the issue.

You can also try to sneak over when he's napping %26amp; clip 1-2 then.

I am a naturally thin person, but I have noticed in the last month that I have eaten anything and everything in sight. I do get full, but I wait a few hours and go again. My stomach is getting bigger and I don't feel hungry most of the time, i see food and i nibble or just eat like normal. I havn't missed any periods and my last one was almost 2 weeks ago. I have to see the ob/gyn for my yearly in a few weeks should I ask her to switch b/c pills to help me curb my appetite? I was going to ask her anyway cause about the week before I get a touch grouchy....ok maybe more than a touch :p but should i mention the strange appetite? My Aunt has a pug who is just like this, she freaks every time, even though we worked with her since she was little. She screams and scratches; it's awful. Once we took her to Petsmart to have it done, and they actually pulled her leg so hard it messed up her hip and numerous vet trips ensued. So basically, we do what you do. One of us holds her and talks in a soothing voice to her, one of us cuts, and one feeds treats. It is not ideal, but the longer you do it, the faster it goes and you deal with it better.
If I were you, I'd take her to PetSmart to get that done. My dog's just like that, and if I tried to cut her nails, I guarantee I'd make her bleed. The people at PetSmart (or any pet store, for that matter) are trained, and they've got the equipment to control her. It only costs $8. I wish I could be of more help.
You want to make sure that you don't make nail cutting a bad experience. Reward her for sitting still. Always use constant reinforcement.

Okay, so I've chewed my nails for like, 4 years, and I really need to stop. My doctor said if I don't watch out, I could get infected nails really soon. Does anyone have any reasonable suggestions on what to do? My mom tells me to put Band-Aids on my fingers, but I don't wanna walk around all day with Band-Aids on my fingers!!! NO.. You describe a floating floor but you say hard wood.. Two different things. I ll assume your doing a locking system laminate or a engineered wood. In either case you cannot use a padding other than the underlayment ';pad'; made for floating floors.

Carpet pad is to thick ( even a 1/4'; ) and will not support a floating floor. The locking system will break in no time at all . With in days for sure.

As one other poster said when you said hard wood. True hardwood ( 3/4';) thick must be nailed and nailed only.. The only thing under these woods is a rosin paper or felt paper. Some pre finished woods will allow for the rosin paper.

I ve attended several installation classes as well as having installed a few 100,000 s/f.

First - you cannot lay 3/4'; T%26amp;G flooring without nails, it will buckle and move all over the place. Second - You never use a cushion pad under plank flooring. What is commonly used is called ';red paper'; but you can also buy a role of 15 pound roofing felt. I'm not sure where you are getting this wacky advice but I'd suggest you do a bit of research from the manufacturers before you get yourself into a lot of trouble. Floating floors on cushion pads is only true for thin plywood veneer or laminate flooring.

cork, foam, plastic sheeting or other underlayment according to the manufacturer's is normally recommended... if you use the carpet padding it may work fine - but in the long run your floors with creak and could potentially crack.... foam is your next best bet.
No, they have some very cheap underlayments and if you use carpet padding with a floating floor you are going to be very sorry.

Carpet padding is meant to be buoyant and bouncy. Do you want bouncy hardwoods that are going to pop out of th tongue and grooves? Better to use nothing than carpet pad. And if you are installing them in a condo or a second floor then you had better spend the money for proflex.
Carpet padding degrades MUCH more quickly than the pad that is made for this type of thing and simply isn't made to do what the rubber stuff does. Your nice, new floors will end up looking awful in no time.

You would not be doing yourself any favors by taking this shortcut.
the rubber underlament is also used as a moisture barrier, I have used 6 mill plastic for the moisture control. If you don't use this your flooring could be damaged.

I filed the surface of my nails, not the tip. I now have what looks like holes in my nails and they hurt, especially when touched. I know I shouldn't have done it, but I was out of nail polish remover and I was desperate to get the nail polish off. My nails now have an uneven surface. Also the tips are so low my skin is showing. That I didn't do. When I had nails before I filed them low, something happened. I don't even know what, but all of a sudden I noticed. Please, don't judge. I have been trying to wait it out, and I have applied a 4-in-1 nail strengthener. Nothing seems to help right now. i just go to a vet or groomers because you might not know diffrent ';soft'; places on your dog and you might hurt her! that happemed to a person i knowHow far down do i clip my dogs toe nails?
I have been grooming for 15 years. On black toenails it can be hard to judge even with experience. One trick I learned early on is 1st clip a little at a time of course but also when you are getting close to the ';quick'; the middle of the nail where you cut gets lighter or gray and is softer. If you do get to close and it bleeds you can use flour and put it on the end in a pinch but you should go to a pet store and purchase ';Kwik-Stop'; really, it works faster. If you are really uncomforatble it isn't that costly to get your vet or groomer to do it for you and they are usually willing to show you how. Good luck

Yes you do have to be careful. You can usually see the blood under the nail. You want to cut no more then 1 to 2 inches above that blood line. Not only will it bleed if you cut to deep but /he or she will give you a hard time the next time you try. If her nails are too black for you to see the blood line, you may want to take her to the groomers the 1st time and ask him if you can watch the 1st time so that you will know for her future manicure.
You do need to be careful how far you clip them. Dogs have blood running to their nails, its called the quick. On most dogs you can see it easily but most dachshunds have black nails. If you cut only the nail that curves down you are pretty safe.
Just be safe and let the vet clip them! It's 13 $ but well worth the clipping..If you clip them and hurt her, you'll never be able to get her trust again. Please don't clip her nails..let the vet!
if you're afraid of how far to clip them bring your dog to the vet - they'll gladly clip the nails for you, and maybe even teach you at what point you should clip them. you could also file them down. my mom has done that before and my dog doesn't mind a bit.
Whether the nails are black or white, you still have to be careful. There is a vein inside the nail called a quick. Start cutting a nail a little at a time. Eventually you will get to a spot where the nail is white with a black dot. STOP!! That is the start of the quick. Before you cut the nails though, it is best to have some flour, chap stick or a bar of soap nearby to stop the bleeding if you do hit it. I am a groomer and I cut nails about 20-30 times a day.. I still make some bleed- not meaning to, but it does happen.. You will get the hang of it..

there's usually no way to calm down your cat when you try to cut their nails,what I usually do,so that don't get attacked in the cross fire is get a large bath towel,wrap it around every part of my cat but the head and one paw,pet it's head for a couple of minutes and try to do it as quickly as possible while holding the back part of my kitties body with my legs.it doesn't hurt them, it's just scary so be gentle and pet them for a while afterward if they don't run and hide on you!
try petting it before you do it, but get all of your supplies ready. try having your cat be comfortable enough to purr. also pet her (or have someone pet her) while you are cutting her nails.
I got my cats used to having their paws handled when they were kittens, and I usually wait till they are sleepy or very relaxed to trim their claws.

It seems he may have gotten hurt before. Put a muzzle on him and then be gentle. Always show that it is no big deal for him to get his nails cut. Don't put a muzzle on only when you're going to cut his nails, otherwise he will figure out what is going to happen after the muzzle. I think Petsmart and Petco trim nails for around $7 which isn't a bad price.

But, you should be able to teach your dog to allow his nails to be clipped. You can try a muzzle, and have someone else help you do the trimming by controlling the dog as you trim.

You can also try just holding and his feet and toes as you feed him treats to get him to associate having his feet handled with getting something good to eat.

Then, don't do too much at one time and be sure you don't cut too much off to cause bleeding. .

start again. Put away the clippers and just get him used to having his feet handled again. Then when he relaxes clip one quickly with sharp clippers and shove a treat into his mouth before he has a chance to decide to be angry again. Do another the next day, another the next etc until he gets used to it again
I had fantastic luck with a device I got at WalMart. It's a rotating sander rather than a pinching clipper, and the dog is much more relaxed about it. It does sound a lot like a vacuum cleaner, though, so that can be an issue with dogs that are sensitive or aggressive toward that noise.

I'll post a link for it below, maybe it will help. Two of my dogs have had issues with nail clippers, and it is a fairly common issue with the terrier family, from what I've read. They have sensitive nails, and unless the clippers are exceedingly sharp, they can pinch and rip the dogs' nails.

Our dog is the same way, she refuses to let us do it, so we take her to the groomers, its 10$ + tip. They say its easier when its not their owners doing it, I have NO idea why though.

make sure you have lots of tiny treats available, and feed him a few as he sniffs and examines the clippers. Put the clippers down and try gently touching his legs and feet with your hand, frequently offering treats. If he doesn't take the treats (but under normal circumstances would), he's still too nervous, and you need to slow down. Touch higher up on his body and legs, and take your time.
Either you or the groomer has hurt his toes at some point. There is actually a nerve growing down toward the tip of the nail and if you clip off too much it will hurt. It can also bleed.

You could try a muzzle for clipping time.
He's probably too old to try to get him to learn to relax at this point, you should have cut his nails as a puppy or at least when you got him. Your best bet would be to bring him to the groomer. Be glad dogs are forgiving creatures :)
HI there, if he is uncomfortable with you touching his paws, it might pay to just get him used to the idea of you holding them without doing anything else. Once he is calm let him sniff the clippers and then have a go.
evidently the groomer clipped to close and hurt him, whether admitted or not. Try a muzzle if you actually fear getting bit or have someone hold his head

Our dog seriously freaks out when we attempt to clip her nails. She cries, bites, and tries as hard as she can to get away from us. She's only 30 lbs., but two full-grown humans can't even hold her down. We're looking for a way to cut her nails without having to take her to a groomer. We are also afraid she will get an infection from her nails breaking.Our dog won't let us clip her nails. Is there a way we can calm her down to clip them?
I have exactly the same problem with my Great Pyrenees (120lbs). You can get a drug called A.C.P. Over here in the U.K. it is available only on prescription from your vet - I don't know about U.S.A. but you can ask the vet. A.C.P. is a tranquilizer and will sedate the dog whilst you trim the nails.

P.S. Start with a small doseage and then build up gradually until you find the correct amount that does the job.Our dog won't let us clip her nails. Is there a way we can calm her down to clip them?
I had one dog who was afraid to get his nails clipped, including trying to bite and he got so he tolerated it really well in a short time.

Get your dog really tired out first from a long walk and lots of playing. Have her lying on her side - and in my opinion, it's best not to have anyone holding her down because you're adding to her stress and making her struggle even more.

Then just get her used to you handling her feet. Next, with the clippers close to her nails, just pretend to clip so she gets used to the noise and realizes she's not being hurt. When she's pretty calm about that, just clip the tips off a couple of nails. You'll have to judge according to her reaction how many nails you can clip at one sitting. If you can't do them all, that's ok, let her go and do a few more later.

Be calm, gentle with her feet but firm with her at the same time to get her to stay. Once she realizes she's not getting hurt, you'll get her to the point where she'll tolerate all of them being clipped.

If she's totally freaking out, you might want to take her to the vet's office so a tech can clip her nails for you, at least the first few times.
Let your vet do the job for you %26amp; ask if he/she could prescribe a mild tranquilizer to give the dog before the appointment. A groomer can't administer meds, so let the vet do it.
try to get her tired...then do like one nail a day.

Play with her paws so she wont be scared when you touch them....

My gog is the same way! Try a herbal remedy. I use Tasha's herbs. Its a claming herbal remedy that will rlax them. It is also great for fire works thunder ect. Good luck
Try to give her some Benadryl to calm her down. I had to do this with a dog I used to have because we acquired him as an adult and he wasnt used to having his paws touched. It will calm her down a lot, just check the web for proper dosage instructions since she's little. Benadryl is safe to use for dogs that need to be calm during a stressful experience (grooming, bathing, travel, vet visit, etc)

its possible that you have a fungus of some sort or you need more vitamins to make your nails stronger. they could be breaking if you do a lot of hard work with them.

Pressed on the meaning of the new travel policy -- When did it come into force? Did it apply to West Berlin? Did people need a passport? -- the flustered apparatchik rustled his papers and gave confusing answers that led the news media to believe the border was open, with immediate effect.

The result, once East Berliners had seen that night's news on West German television, was chaos at border crossings across the city.

At Bornholmer Strasse, one of the main checkpoints in central Berlin, confused border guards couldn't get clear orders on how to deal with the crush, and debated whether to open fire. Instead, they opened the barrier, and the Berlin Wall was history. The events have been chronicled by Hans-Hermann Hertle, a historian who specializes in the fall of East Germany.

';Among those who are aware of the incident, Mr. Ehrman generally gets credit. In 2008, Germany's president awarded Mr. Ehrman the country's highest honor, the Federal Cross of Merit. 'His persistence at the press conference finally elicited the crucial statement'; that brought down the Wall, the citation said: ';His name stands for...German unity.'';

I think it funny that anyone thinks just ONE person brought down the Berlin Wall. It was a series of events that slowly but surely weakened it. Do you honestly think a strong Soviet Union would not have closed the borders in the above incident... if it wasn't for the fact they had been so grievously weakened that their leaders knew they couldn't stop the break once it occurred? And the REASON they were so weakened was in a large part due to the policies of Ronald Reagan who goaded the Soviets in to trying to keep up with Star Wars program... knowing full well their economy was VERY shaky. The Soviets poured money in to their own program... money they couldn't afford to waste... and it quickly collapsed their economy. And was revealed later... that is exactly what Reagan was trying to accomplish.

I am a tad frustrated with the red nail polish of brand ';M';. It seems to me that I cannot wear red nail polish without it chipping on the 2nd or 3rd day. I have tried other Answerers' advice on wearing rubber gloves while washing dishes, reapplying top coat every 2 or 3 days.....but they still chip while my other bold dark nail polish, of other brands, chips after 5 days or so.

A lot of the time it is the brand of nail polish. I've got a few cheaper ones that will completely peel up after a day or so. The best way to keep nail polish on is to wash your hands, take nail polish remover and wipe your nails off so there's no residue between your nails and the nail polish, apply a base coat, 2 coats of color, then the top coat. The nail polish can still potentially chip if you aren't careful, but whenever I want to keep a nail polish color on for a long time I actually touch up the top coat daily. Natural nail shape is influenced by genetics and by the shape of your own natural nail bed. Granted that long nails are not for everyone and one has to consider job guidelines etc., but to have someone tell you to cut your nails simply because in their opinion they are too long is wrong. That is an individual's choice. Yes, to have long nails means a certain amount of time and dedication needs to be set aside for maintenance and one needs to be a little more careful when doing things with our hands but the end result is the 10 shiny jewels at the end of your fingertips. Remember, nails are jewels, not tools, and long nails are neither gross or icky. Sometimes people who cannot or choose not to grow their nails will say that out of envy. A well maintained set of nails can be absolutely beautiful and an artistic canvas to a nailtech with as much passion for beautiful nails as the person growing them.

I am assuming you like to grow your nails in which case, as a nailtech, i will recommend that you find a reputable salon in your area and a nailtech who will take the time to do the job properly, without the need to use an electric file on the natural nail. An electric file should only be used on the acrylic, not to remove layers off the nailbed. Nails need to be pampered. A good nailtech will find the best enhancement if one is needed. I personally recommend gel as an overlay to protect the nail and a daily regimen off a good cuticle oil (I love Solar Oil by Creative Nail Design) Sometimes nails will curl once they get past the fingertip as skin oils do not reach them and if they are in water too much without protection. Using the nail oil before doing anything with water and before going to bed helps keep the nails hydrated. Always wear gloves for dishes or cleaning.

I am going to disagree with many of the answers here.

Just because they are curling doesn't mean they are too long. There are plenty of people, males and females that would disagree. check out www.nailpassion.com, www.nailbytes1.com or either of my groups http://groups.yahoo.com/group/spinniesattic/ or http://groups.yahoo.com/group/spinniesguesthouse for places filled with people who have an understanding and passion for long nails.

But to the question, often acrylics or wraps will help stop the curl. And I knew a lady who even would soak her nails and score then along each side and straighten them and then put fiberglass wraps on.

Without something added they will curl, but do know that shows they are natural. It shows they each have their own personality and don't think that its a bad thing. A good friend of mine had felt the same way but ultimately she has grown to enjoy them knowing they are natural and all her own.

Feel free to write or visit the sites I suggested and you will see that there are far more people then you know who feel that your nails are just fine.
Tina, my simple opinion is that nails are a distinctive part of us and even more important in females. Looking the hands and the nails of a person you can tell much of this person, hard hand workers, nail biters, typist, guitar player, they all have very different hands and nails. I also think that nails have a sort of their own personality, as hair, eyes, noses have. Do you cut your hair because their curl when they are too long?

All the people go around with different noses, eyes, hair鈥?and with different fingernails.

My opinion is that you should feel free to express yourself with the fingernails long as much you like and you should also allow your nails to express themselves with their own particular shape.

it does damage your nail and it feels like forever befor they come back to their normal strength. it's best to soak them really long in nail polish remover with acetone but that's what the pro's do. and they've also got all the extra equipment to clean up your nail bed properly. if they're bugging you, soak long and let them come off gently, DON';T PULL THEM OFF. you could rip a chunk of nail off in the middle of your nail bed and girl, it's serious trouble if that happens. acrylic nails sometimes can be very bonded to your nail so don't take chances. infection in the nail is awful and takes forever to heal and looks bad. hope that answers it.
Just go get some acetone...its really cheap and then you can soak the nails off. Your nails wont be ruined forever they will just be a bit fragile for awile depending on how much damage is done when removing the nails as they can cause your own nails to peel layers off abit. Your nails will grow out the damaged part and be good again which takes about 3 months or so.
by putting them on, it's already ruined your nails.

I have acrylic nails for a few months and they totally messed up my nails. They infected them where they turn yellow and I had no choice to take them off and get a manicure weekly or keep putting on acrylics. I had them taken off about 9 months ago and the infected part of my nail is STILL not all the way grown out. I'll never get fake ones again.

if she's an indoor only cat, then you should get her nails clipped every couple of months (depending on how fast hers grow). if she's an indoor/outdoor cat then you can probably wait a little longer because being outside naturally helps control the length and sharpness of her nails.

i would suggest clipping rather than filing because cats don't like their nails being messed with and clipping is quicker and easier to do. though both have risks (clipping too far can cause her nail to bleed, but it will be ok) (with filing you could jam her nail which would be painful for longer).Is it wise to get my kittens nails cut or just filed down?

It's a better idea to get a scratching post and maybe a spray, like bitter apple, that will keep your kitten off something you really want to protect. As far as getting scratched yourself, it will happen, but its ok. Kittens are energetic and playful. As they get older, you'll get a lot less scratches, just like they'll wake you up at night less. Try to hold her and play with her anyway. It'll get easier. If she's your only kitten, you might think about getting a second. If she had a playmate, she would go to you less(although she'd still need you), and still be happy

If you cut a claw, it will crush the claw and you risk her getting a very dangerous foot infection. I've seen this more than once and it's not pretty. It's very painful for the cat or kitten, expensive for you and, especially for a kitten, dangerous to its overall health. I have a cat now that came to me with a foot infection. After a long treatment and a lot of pain and sickness, he is now missing a toe.

So, I think it is really not worth it, but if you must, go to a good vet. Most will try to explain to you that it isn't necessary-- if she has something good to scratch on, she will take her claws down the right amount on her own. However, if you insist, a vet can show you the best way and should tell you that a sharp implement is less likely to crush a claw than a dull one (nothing from the grocery store or pet store is probably good enough),

Btw, a kittens back claws should always be left alone. She won't use them to scratch, so you don't need to worry about it.

I'm sure there are people who will file your kittens claws for you, I don't know. I can't imagine any of my cats allowing it, at any age.

Really though, I recommend a scratching post, maybe the bitter apple spray and a sense of humor. Cats and kittens have claws, they scratch. You will get some scratches and so will your home - it's kinda like breathing or licking their fur, there's no way to stop a cat from being a cat.
Either one would be fine, trim or file. It's good to get them started now so they are use to it......

i have rabbits too, and where the pink area is on a rabbits nails, you should cut the nail until your a little aways from the pink, but don't cut right to it or on it because the rabbit will bleed.
If his nails are white you will be able to see the quick or blood vein in the nail. Do not cut below the top of the quick. Cut just above it.

If you do cut the quick and it bleeds do not panic. Take a little flour and put it in the palm of your hand. Place the bleeding nail in the middle of the flour and hold it on the nail. This will help the blood clot and stop the bleeding.

I would say to put some oil, edible/corn/olive oil on the joint to stop it from squeaking.
Try putting a Lazy Pet Plush Sheepskin Pad under the wheel. You can get them at Petco. Just cut it to the perfect size that fits under the wheel.
same thing happened to me all you have to do is put some vegtable oil on it and put it bak in her cage. next day take it out and put new veggie oil(make sure you wash it first) on it and see if it works keep repeating this.
Put a few drops of vegetable oil on the sqeaky part...that should do it!

I have the same problem but I got used to it and now I got so used to it that when ever there is thunderstorms I just think it is my hamster running on his wheel! My dad put oil on it but in a week it had worn off and got even worse so I would suggest just getting used to it!!

I've got one nail that is on the verge of breaking but I don't want to cut them all down so I've kinda filed the little nick away and now my nail is all wonky. Oh the dilemmas of a woman...If you break one nail, do you cut all the others down too or do you just have one short one?
I really hate when that happens ...its such an odd feeling on your hand as well...but I just file the one that is broken and wait on the broken one to grow out ...and maybe you could just wear clear polish to keep less attention to it while it grows...If you are going to a party or event you could always go and get one put on, but those are so hard on my nails ...so if you do choose to get a nail put on I would just buy one at Walmart or somewhere like that I think those might be not as harsh on your nail.

Well, due to my job, doesn't matter how careful I am I still occasionally break my nail. I used to cut them down, but now I learned to repair them in case they break.

All you have to do is put a dot of superglue on your nail where it's breaking, and use the glue tip to spread it around a little. Don't touch anything for about five minute and file smooth with a very fine nail file.

However, it might be helpful to cut all your nail down a little bit to prevent it from breaking further. So yeah, even if you want to cut the broken nail, you can cut down the rest just a little bit so it's not too noticeable. Besides, cutting your nail will make it gorw faster.

My chihuahua did the same thing. A groomer and 2 vets offices wouldn't clip his nails because he was so bad, even with a muzzle. He rolled, wrestled, and twisted so hard they all thought they would break a leg holding him down.

Here's what I did:

I got him into what the Dog Whisperer would call calm, submissive behavior before starting. I put him on the floor and rolled him on his back until he was comfortable in that position.

Then, I would hold him and clip one nail, making absolutely sure not to cut too short and thus validate his need to fight.

I did this for a few months, one nail a week. It sounds like a pain, but doing one nail at a time is only a few minutes. Then I was able to do a couple nails, and now, I can do all of them without issue.

The key here is to get the nail clipped before your pooch works himself up into that frenzy again; that reinforces that response. And getting them on the floor, on their backs for a few moments before you start tells the dog you are the leader of the pack, and he needs to trust you. And as long as you repeatedly don't hurt him when doing so, he does get that message.

A lot of chihuahuas hate their nails trimmed. You may be better off having it done at a grooming salon. Sometimes the dogs are better when somebody else besides their owner is doing it.
Some dogs are just mental when it comes to claw clipping. I used to have one who freaked out and we had to take her to the vet's to get them done and even then it was a wrestling match with her being pinned down on the floor with someone actually sitting on her !

You have to be careful when cutting nails- they aren't like human's nails. If you cut the nail too far down, it will bleed and severly hurt the dog. You really should take her to a proffessional groomer or the vet- it isn't expensive and that way you can assure it is done correctly.

You could try holding her around the chest with her legs dangling down and clip her front nails. Then you might need someone else to hold her the same way so you can do the back ones. All you need to fix a split nail is a tea bag and some fingernail polish. The materials to fix a split nail this way are cheap and you probably have them sitting around in your home.

First take the tea bag and cut it open. After you cut open the tea bag spill out the tea and throw it away or make yourself a cup of tea with the loose tea. You don't need the tea to fix your split nail you need the tea bag material.

Take you tea bag and cut it so that it fits your nail. It is best if you can get it to go over the entire nail so that it is stronger then if you just use a tiny piece to cover up the split.

After you have the tea bag cut to fit your nail place it on the nail and cover the piece of tea bag with some nail polish. You can use any color nail polish you wish as long as it covers the tea bag and is able to soak into the tea bag. If you aren't using nail polish on the other nails then clear is the best choice.

Once the nail polish has been applied to the tea bag let it dry thoroughly before you use the finger or toe. Make sure the polish is very dry before you put on a sock or a shoe on a split toe nail. The drier the nail polish is before you use it the better.

As the nail grow out you can clip it off and eventually the split will be grown out and the nail will be good as new.

Ok so the floor guy at the store told us to nail down our subfloor that we are putting over our old subfloor. Instead of screws. I wanted to use screws my husband said just nails. What do you recommend? We are installing hardwood floor over top and i thought screws would be more sturdy but im not sure. Use screws. Trust me on this one. We nailed down a sub-floor in our kitchen then tiled it. Well, 2 years later, the grout started cracking and we had to replace the entire floor, and screw down the sub-flooring. After screwing it down put a small amount of wood filler over the screws too.
The only reason the builder uses nails is because it is faster to use a nailer therefore cheaper. Also nails cost less $$ then screws. If you do nail use a ring shank type nail.
Screws will come loose because of the threading - use heavy duty long nails and you shouldn't have a problem.

Make sure you secure the sub-floor with LOTS of nails so you don't get creaking later on.

Sure, you can file them down, but I really don't think you need to buff them out. Why don't you leave the length for a few more days, because you will probably get used to them. I know the first little while is a little awkward, especially if you are used to short nails. Good luck!

Getting your nails to grow fast is really about taking care of them and keeping them healthy. Nails grow about 1/8 inch per month but what keeps nails from getting long is more about nail damage and poor nail care than about slow growth.

Shape your nails from the outside edge toward the middle, moving the emery board in one direction only rather than sawing it back and forth which damages the nail. Soaking nails in warm, soapy water before pushing cuticles back makes for less scraping on the nail bed (the pink part of the nail).

Condition nails with the same hand cream used on hands.Keeping nail polish on will keep nails from splitting, tearing or cracking. When doing a manicure, choose a nail shape that is wide and more square which is less apt to break, rather than a pointier oval shape. Using an oily nail polish remover will also help.

Eat a balanced diet to prevent vitamin deficiencies that create unhealthy nail conditions such as peeling, splitting or brittle nails. Don't fuss with your nails all the time as over filing can cause weakening and other nail problems.

Apply a strengthening clear polish to your nails regularly, even if you do not usually paint your nails.

We had this same scratching constantly at the first house we rented. My brother and I would beat on the walls because we thought it was a family of mice. Turns out one dark night that the bats made their first appearance in our house. And then another came out a few days later and we realized we had a colony of bats in our walls and roof. Needless to say, we didn't stay there.

This sound you're hearing could be anything. Tree branches, critters, things of this nature. But you mentioned some other things occurring. Don't let people knock you on the bad energy feeling, because anything is possible. If you really feel that strongly on it, contact one of those paranormal specialists or someone who has the heat detector machine that picks up other sources of heat in your room. If you're religious, try a priest or pastor to talk to. If it's really not hurting you, maybe best to move or if you're underage; find a new room to sleep in.

You might have mice. Or worse, rats. There could also be a squirrel in your wall. Maybe you should have someone from a pest-control company come and look for you.
Are you sure it isn't something in the wall, like an animal. I had almost the same thing happen. My lights would go out randomly, my stereo wouldn't work right sometimes, I would hear being dragged in the attic. Turns out it wasn't a ghost but a family of squirrels that were in the space between the walls. We lived in the middle of the woods and it was winter time, so we had a lot of small critters constantly trying to find warmth. So maybe you just have a winter guest not a ghost?

The product you are looking for is a staple, it is not a nail. It is a thicker guage than most staples, not regular paper staples. You can find them in the hardware section of Lowe's or Home Depot. Not knowing your location, I'm sure your local hardware store also has them. DO NOT use a staple gun to install them. That will definitely cut the entire wire, not just the sheathing.

They also make a staple which won't fit in a staple gun. This also can be found in the hardware section. These are very sharp, so be careful.

Lastly, another option is an actual wire nail. This, I think, you

will find in the electrical section. It is a standard nail but has a plastic attachment that hold the wire in place when nailed in. These will be more expensive.

This is a very common way to cut or sand down a length of nails. I agree that the pedipaws is only good for taking the sharper edges off the nails after they have been cut, but used correctly, the dremel should do this job perfectly. Yes I dremel. I don't need any pedipaws(I think thats the one that reads where the quick is?) because I worked in a groom shop for over a year and cutting nails is easy for me. I used to cut them on my dog but they are so short I only need to do a quick dremeling once a week.
i have my dogs' nails dremeled %26amp; it's great to get them back to where they should be without risking nippng the quick which can be bloody %26amp; is painful for the dog. it's also often much easily tolerated by dogs who hate having their nails done.
Actually I use horse nippers to clip the nail down on my dane b/c it does a clean job. And then I use a dremel to smooth/round the edges over. No worries, I do the same thing.

One easy way to cut a bad dog's nails is to run his sturdy leash through a chain link fence (around the post) and pull him up snug against it. You pretty much have to use a choke collar - not to choke him, but to keep him from backing out of the collar.

Then, just keep clear of his teeth and trim away. Try to make is as pleasant as possible for him - give him treats, don't cut into the quick, praise him when he's not trying to bite you. We did this with the guard dogs that sometimes stayed at our kennel and no one ever go bit. I prefer not to tranquilize a dog unless absolutely necessary.What can I use to calm a dog down to be able to cut his nails,our Vet is not near us.?
My vet sticks a treat in my dog's mouth before trimming. Get a good friend to hold the pointy part (the head end) with a treat or a rawhide between the teeth, and another friend to keep weight on the dog as he lies down... then work as carefully but quickly as you can. Don't cut the quick of any of his claws or you'll have a chase every time he sees the clippers from here on.
We have to muzzle one of our large dogs to clip his nails. He's a sweety untill you touch his feet. Buy a muzzle and do it yourself. But, for us, it takes two people. one to hold him and one to clip the nails. Have fun and have a Doggie treat ready for when he's all done.

unless you have the proper tool don't do it.

i presume as vet far away that your dog may walk a lot more on grass than concrete. the concrete can help to help the nails keep short.

now i would strongly recommend that you take the dog out for a Good long run tire him out . get him used to the clippers let him play with it even to the extent of playing fetch with it. dogs tend to be very aware of new things within there boundary and can react . So tire him out and get him used to the nail clippers. you should also in the future walk him on concrete , Be patient make it a good experience for the dog talk and praise him during the clipping and reward him each time he has no reaction to it,
Try an over the counter canine stress reducer called ';Rescue Remedy'; or one called ';Canine calm and cool';. Sometimes they will take enough of the edge off to do the work.

I have have a rescue who is extremely body sensitive and absolutely hates to be touched. For him we had to give him aceapromazine (by prescription), a mild sedative, and then used two people to work on him.

We have tried various methods of desensitization and positive re-enforcement with other dogs but haven't been overly successful with those methods.
A vet would use a tranquilizer like phenobarbitol.

But in the real world there are dogs who for many reasons don't like their feet handled. So we need to begin a desensitization program for these dogs to be successful. If the dog is very fearful of the clippers, first begin by sitting in a known environment with the clippers in your hand the sofa or your favorite lounge chair. Let your body language reflect a clam ordinariness. Hold the clippers in your hand and have a bag of treats and the clicker ready to go. Let dog come to check out what you have in your hand, and if he reaches out, sniffs at the clippers, click and treat. Move clippers around on your lap, hold them out in your hand, click and treat for any interaction. Squeeze clippers, activating them, and click and treat for the dog not balking. If dog balks when clippers are activated, just ignore the dog. When dog, from your peripheral vision, is no longer worried (throwing calming signals), squeeze clippers again and quickly click and TOSS treat to dog. Continue squeezing clippers and rapidly click and toss treats. Do this for however long it takes the dog to realize you are holding something that he doesn't need to fear. The open bar/closed bar is good here, as Jean Donaldson explains. When the clippers are in hand, the bar is open and treats flow fast. When the clickers are put away, treats stop. If the dog mainly stresses on a grooming table, when his feet are picked up, toes manipulated, now is the time to start desensitizing him to this. Take a day or two to practice just putting the dog in the grooming noose, if necessary, and clicking him for allowing you to spread his toes. Don't attempt to clip a nail until the dog is no longer showing stress over having his legs lifted, his toes spread and manipulated. If you don't use a grooming table for nail clipping, and use your lap instead, with the dog lying on its back or side, then work on getting the dog comfortably in that position while you click and treat for calmness. Pick up the clippers and hold them in the palm of your hand, and slowly touch the dog's body with the clippers. C/T for all quiet behaviors. Then activate clippers while still rapidly reinforcing calm and quiet. Don't attempt to clip nails until the dog is not stressing around the presence of the clippers. Some dogs only begin stressing once the clippers are activated. Practice desensitizing to the sound of that sliding metal which probably indicates to a dog that something stressful or something painful is coming. Know your dog anatomy well, and be sure you are prepared before you do an actual cut on the nail. If you cut too high - into the quick of the nail then you'll have a much harder time gaining his confidence and will be back to square one. For the desensitization program, you truly need to make certain each experience in the presence of the clickers is non-stressful, non-painful.
I have the same problem. We use two people with the one person doing the trimming and the other person holding. The holder stays at the head, holding the head and lifts one leg up, which leaves the other three feet flat on the floor. The trimmer cuts the nails while they are on the floor. This is also done while the dog is crowded into a corner. We don't have a muzzle but plan to use that as well. We leave the dew claws to last when the dog is a bit more settled. Hope this helps - it works for us.
First off you need two people to control a big dog. One person to hold him down and the other to clip the nails. What I was told from my vet the best way to get a dog to calm down is flip him on his side and hold his legs for a while and don't let him get up until he is calm. He may not like it but the more often you do it the easier it will be to calm him down. that is also a good was to clip his nails once he gets use to it.

When I say resisting she is on the verge of biting me. I took her to the vet and it took three men to hold her while the vet cut her nails. I adopted her from the animal welfare league and don't know if she has had any problems with getting her nails cut in the past.My dog won't stop resisting when I try to cut her nails. First, make sure the dog has just been exercised - either go for a jog or play fetch. This is much easier if the dog is worn out.

Second. You will need lots %26amp; lots of yummy treats (like hot dogs). This might also take 2 people one to gently hold the pup down %26amp; the other to cut the toe nail. The non-cutter person should put a treat deep in their hand %26amp; make a fist, this way the dog kind of has to work to get the treat out which will keep her mind off of the nail cutting.

Trim the nail %26amp; give another treat %26amp; big praise. If she will let you do another nail or two keep going, but if not stop %26amp; start again tomorrow. Sometimes it will take a few days to get them all done.

Other options - you can try using a dremel tool. Use same approach to get dogs acclimated to the tool. If you are cutting with normal clippers, her nails might be too big %26amp; you are just mashing the nail. You might want to use three cuts per nail - first %26amp; second cuts are the sides to make the nail into a pointy ';V'; then third cut to trim the point of the ';V.'; This way has more cutting, but less mashing.My dog won't stop resisting when I try to cut her nails. Counter-conditioning and desensitization should do it. Start at a level that she can handle, just before she would normally start to react. For instance, if you can touch her feet but she gets upset when she sees the clippers, start by holding a foot and then giving a treat. Do this four or five times. Next, lie the clippers on the floor near you and hold her foot and then give a treat. When she is relaxed for this, move the clippers closer and repeat. Eventually, hold the clippers and give a treat, touch a nail with the clippers and treat, put a nail in the clippers but don't clip and give a treat, clip one nail and treat, clip two nails and treat, clip a paw and treat, etc.

If she isn't treat motivated, use whatever she loves as a reward.

I have also had very good experience with giving my dog and my cat Rescue Remedy before clipping their nails to calm them down.
My dog hates getting his nails cut and his ears cleaned. I know that the reason why he doesn't want to get them cut is because they are very close to his skin so what I do (although it may sound a bit weird) is that I take him a bath just so that his nails are loosened up and immediately after drying him up a bit with a towel I take my nail filer and i file them down. It's easier for me to file them down than it is to get them cut because I don't want to hurt him.

Another thing you can do is take her to Petsmart or Petco. They are usually pretty good with stuff like that and they have the equipment to restrain while they are trimming, bathing or cutting.

You really have to be calm yourself!!!!! They featured this on last weeks Dog Whisperer. The thing that they kept saying was that the handler had to be calm, and try to relax the dog. So one person massaged and relaxed the dog, (which apparently took 30 minutes), while the other person cut the nails. I know that is true when my husband cuts our dogs nails. He is the one that needs to relax, and stay relaxed. If the dog gets stressed, my husband stops, and waits for the dog to relax before he continues. It may take a while, but eventually they get it done. Maybe you could play some music that relaxes you, and brings your stress down. good luck

first of all, you can't be doing that if she resists so much. You might end up hurting her. You need to make her feel comfortable. Play with her paws a lot so she feels comfortable you touching, rubbing, grabbing her paws. Once she's okay, try to clip it again. Your experience will be much better.
Ignore her antics. If she tries to bite, use a muzzle. If at any time she settles down and behaves, praise and reward.

Once she knows she HAS to get her nails done, like it or not, she'll get used to it.
when she's sleeping block her in against a wall or something, by sitting squashed up to her (not too hard- just so she cant move)! have someone hold her head down for you so she cant bite and just cut them! - harsh i know! make sure you spoil her after! good luck!
I suggest you use treats. Put her wherever you're going to clip her nails. Then as soon as she's up there give her a treat. While she eats try to clip her nails. Give her treats every time she sits still.
Wait till she's in a deep sleep, then sneak up and clip on or two of her nails, if she starts to freak out. Wait untill shes sleeping again.
pet her. give her love. show her you care and that it needs to be done.

yeah i always have this problem, the ones meant 4 my ring finger fit my thumb and so on...... yes you can most definatly file them down however it does take years and so i used 2 just despare. however if you invest in an electrical nail file , it doesnt have to b an expensive top of the range one, they are ready way quicker. you may think this is a waste of money but it is totaly worth it as it saves you time and energy and is wayyyy cheaper than going to a salon everytime!!!

Ignore it. Your boss can always fire you and I'm guessing you need your job.

I don't know what it's called but its something that they put on a child's hands to prevent them from putting them in their mouthes. It has a very horrible taste but it's not harmful. If you are that of a child and can't stop biting your nails, try washing your hands in vinegar, lemon juice or something that has a horrible taste but can't harm you.Whats a good way to stop bitting your nails down to the skin.?

This sounds crazy, but I'm a reformed nail biter, and for the first couple of weeks, I wore gloves and actually covered up my fingers. Also get tons of gum and chewy candy.
put some clear nail pollish on them and chow on gum.
Put tape on your nails until your habit is cured. After that resist the temptation.
it only takes two weeks to break a habait so i would put a yucky toxic on your nails then every time u chew u taste it. worked 4 my sister.
There are products that you can buy at walgreens that you paint on like nailpolish that make your nails taste bad when you bite them. I would recommend buying a bottle of this stuff and painting it on. One brand is ';Orly No Bite'; which costs $3.99 for a bottle. It is nontoxic but taste bad when you put it in your mouth.
mix a lot of house holed item till you make somthing really stinky and nasty tasting then put on your nails! it will teach you that your nails are nasty and they tate will stay wiht you forever.

Put tape around your nails or dab the skin right above the nail with nail polish remover.
NAIL POLISH! and a conscious effort. The nail polish reminds you not to bite or chew on the nails and skin. It's like a string tied around your finger to help you remember. I would also say get a manicure (not as much as fake nails, maybe 15.00 depending on where you go). The nicer your nails look to begin with, the more motivation to keep them that way.
Well, what helpe me stop was to put hot sauce or salsa on my fingers.

I'd take them down. It isn't really hard to pull them. If the spikes don't pull out I'd use a bolt cutter to cut them off.

It is better to take them off, inspect for damage and repair any damage now.

Leaks around gutters cause a lot of damage. If you live in a cold climate you want to protect the wood behind the gutters as best you can. Where I live ice dams in the gutters cause water to back up into the soffit and the vinyl may offer some protection to the gutter board.

A good builder will use ';ice guard'; on the roof eaves and even carry it down the sub gutter board to protect the framing.

touch your dogs foot, and give a treat. repeat all day. next day, start by touching foot and giving treat, then switch to touching foot with trimmer and treating. continue all day.

same thing next day, only substitute holding paw, and touching with tool at end. Don't clip yet! just keep that positive association going.

repeat for another day. Keep progressing this way, till he's comfy, and looking forward to it. I had a cocker that just freaked when I tried to clip his nails. He struggled terribly. My husband and I tried laying on him and holding him, to no avail. We were afraid he would dislocate a joint if we kept trying. The vet said we just didn't know how. She had me leave the room. When she called me back in she was all desheveled (sp?), sweaty and exhausted. She couldn't do it either. I figured this out:

Find something he likes: petting, stroking, brushing. Do it until he lays quietly. Hold and rub his feet, getting him used to them getting gentle handling. Have an emery board handy. Lightly hold one paw and gently run the emery board on a nail. Do it more just back and forth lightly (you don't have to actually be effective yet). Continue with a bit more pressure and holding each nail more firmly. All 5 of my dogs find this to be not only tolerable, but soothing. Then you have a choice. You can either relax them with a bit of filing and then slip in the clipper and clip one then immediately go back to filing as though nothing happened, or if your dog still hates the clippers too much, try just filing them regularly. Consider it a bonding session. Let him lay on your lap while you watch TV and file his nails. Oh, yes. . .and give treats throughout the session. My dogs just go to sleep. Of course, they go to sleep now when I clip/groom them with the clippers also. Good luck. Let me know if it works. I wonder about the little rotary nail sander they sell now, also.
i LOVE labs and i know a lot about them so i defiantly know that they are extremely hyper.first,let the dog know that the clippers wont hurt and let them sniff and know that its all right.every day put them near ur dog and let it sniff it and stroke with it on its paw to say its all right.afetr a week or so of duing that not earlier then start clipping.make sure before u do this u introduce it and clip and all after a long walk or good run outside.the key thing of training any pup especially labs is to tire them out first and get all there energy out so thats how they will be calm then clip it.u could also have some assistence from someone by having ur husband keep the puppy still and sitting while u clip but remember do it after the pup tires itself out caue labs can be hard to handle if u start training later in life cause they are wickd strong and energetic so do ALL ur training as a pup.good start!!do the same with leash training it get it used to and stiff the leash then every day put it on for a few min. then extend time as time goes on and then u can walk ur dog without it restling the leash.just an fyi-cause a lot of dog owners have that problem cause they never first introduce them with new stuff just get right on with it.remember to be patient.introduce the brush too and all thoe things at early age so they will like it cause they wont if u do it when they are old.hope i helpped:)
Don't laugh, my friend lies on the ground, and clips her dogs nails while he is standing up. It is less drama and the puppy is focusing on balance, so there isn't much protesting. It may look strange, but it works for her. My vet clips my dogs nails, and I bake her peanut butter cookies.
You might want to try going to Whole Foods for some place like that and getting an herbal mix to calm your dog. It really does work. We used to give it to our Cocker who freaked out about everything.

Over time you may be able to stop using it too. After a few months of being on that mix our Cocker was able to realize that her fears had no merit and she kept herself calm on her own.
Benadryl! We give it my my dog every time he has to go for a car ride he really hates the car. But just give your pup the amount that your vet recommends. I use children's because it is easier. Works every time. And my vet recommends it! It won't hurt him at all.
For me personally, I do it in the evening when my puppy is settling down to sleep. I just stroke him lightly and trim the nails.
Do a nail at the time, and reward. One a day. Front paws are more sensitive. Forget Petsmart. Obedience has nothing to do with this.
