My dogs nail broke all the way down to the root...its barely hanging on. What to do?

the broken bit of nail needs to be removed. it will hurt your dog so if your brave then do it, other wise go to your vet. NEVER use dettol it can burn your dogs skin and will make them sick if he licks it. it may bleed so putting a soft bandage on will help stop the bleeding and help stop any licking. may still need to go to the vet as your dog may need antibiotics as well to help avoid any infection. best of luckMy dogs nail broke all the way down to the root...its barely hanging on. If it is dangling there, then you will need to cut the dangling part of it off so that it doesn't snag on anything.

If it is bleeding, you need to stop the bleeding with some styptic powder or something else that helps stop bleeding.

If it is raw and sore looking, then you might need to lightly wrap it to protect it until it heals up. My dogs nail broke all the way down to the root...its barely hanging on. What to do?
Hi, This recently happened to my old dog. I had to take her to the vet as I was afraid it would become infected. The Doc said it was extremely painful, with the nerve (quick) all exposed. She cleaned and dressed it with a lot of bandages. I couldn't walk her for a week. It turned out ok but I took a lot of care with it keeping it clean and keeping her off it. Good luck with your poor baby.
Let it come off naturally. It will bleed though but just wash it with Dettol. Your dog may find it difficult to walk but he'll OR she'll get used to it and soon the nail will grow back.

PS: If it does not stop bleeding SEE THE VET ! Hope your dog gets well soon !
Snip it off %26amp; forget it.
