Will sand paper help file my hamsters nails down?

he has some in his cage, its just the stuff you put in a budgies cage, and its not too rough so it would hurt his feetWill sand paper help file my hamsters nails down?
PUT A ROCK IN THE FOR FFS YOU RETARD! HAMPSTERS ARE PERFECTLY CAPABLE OF DOING THEIR OWN NAILS!!!!

anb btw hampstir needs a new cage NOT a budgie cage! Will sand paper help file my hamsters nails down?
If you mean would it sand them down by him walking on them then yes. It does depend on how long they are though - if they are too long already it will take too long to wear down by the sandpaper. It is a good idea to get them clipped either professionally or by yourself if you think you can do it without causing it any pain. The sandpaper in the cage is a good idea as a preventative measure so long as the nails aren't long enough to be causing a problem right now.
You can use the sandpaper - make sure its not completely covering the cage bottom, so he can get off of it if it bothers him. Some hamsters will also eat the sandpaper which probably isn't healthy for them.

Other ideas - rocks! put a flat one that can not roll tip or otherwise move and squash your pet where he has to walk on it for food and water. If you have a ';hamster play pen'; or something similar that you can put on a hard surface (like a screened in back porch with a concrete floor) while you have him out of the cage to play that can help too.

A brand of wheel called the ';Wodent Wheel'; has an optional nail trimming track thats really effective. Just be sure to follow the instructions for how long it can remain in the cage.

If you decide to take on the admittedly intimidating task of tackling nail trimming on your own, baby human nail clippers are really helpful. Having the common sense not to try to cut all of the little nails at once also helps - start with the longest nail and if thats the only one you get done that time its ok.
Hahahaha wow. Not a lot of experienced hamster owners?

I dont know why people bother posting,if they have no clue what their talking about.

Anyways...Yes sand paper is fine to use. The really low grained sand paper. I would not suggest putting it in his cage though, because if he finds it an enjoyable chew toy,and ingests the grains..it can cut up his insides..and kill him.

Let him out of his cage once in a while..maybe in an enclosed area where he wont run off,and let him run around on it.

Always supervise him when your using it. Dont leave him alone with it.
sounds allright but check the back of it and see what number is on it (what grade it is)

for an animal i wouldnt use anything less than 180 - even so be careful! you dont want to hurt your hamster!
no thats animal abuse leave his little claws alone his feet are fine the way God made them. keep your hands off his paws poor little guy.
yes, sand paper will help to keep his nails blunt, if they already are long i would trim them or get a vet to do it.
it will a bit but it will be hard to i suggest going to the vet to do it.
just take him to the vets and get his nails cut
yes, but be careful not to hurt him
yea but its hard, try using a file instead
hahahahhaa probibly :)
