When you get acrylic nails do they shave down your fingernails?

I heard they shave down the top of your nail so it doesn't make a bump when the put on the fake nail. Do they? When you get acrylic nails do they shave down your fingernails?
yeah, it kind of ruins it

but i think its worth itWhen you get acrylic nails do they shave down your fingernails?
There are at least two ways to get artificial nails. One way is at the salons where they use ';drills'; and where they do hand filing. The drills are more invasive and are more likely to cause damage to the natural nail bed. Though hand filing is less invasive during the application, anytime you overlay your natural nail with an artificial product whether it be acrylic or gel, it prevents the natural nail from rejuvenating and deprives the natural nail of air. Any time this happens the natural nail will become weaker over a period of time. Having acrylic or gel nails is a commitment of two week fills (usuallly) and removal methods should be discussed with the nail technician.
they dont shave it down. but they do buff it with a file to smooth it out some. not enough to cause severe damage. i wouldn't recommend getting your nails done too often though as it can weaken the nail
They should be cut short before application. But don't have them use electric sander on the top for prep only by hand with emery board so not to remove to much of your own surface.
yea they do. i had fake nails for about two yrs and got them done every 2 weeks. when i got them off my nails were ruined.
