can we just float it...it is tongue and groove real oak wood....REAL OAK WOOD FLOORING...do we need to nail it down or?
Any and ALL 3/4'; THICK t %26amp;g must be nailed down.. You ll see that the tongue is round and doesn t lock into the groove. If its a thinner product such as 3/8ths, 1/2'; or 5/8 ths inch wood, these are floating, or nailed or glued. These vary within the kind they are. Any questions you can ask/email me direct GLREAL OAK WOOD FLOORING...do we need to nail it down or?
Most hardwood flooring is tongue %26amp; groove and is nailed down using a specialty tool and nails. Nailing is done on an angle, through the tongue and down into the subfloor so, once the next piece of flooring is laid down you cannot see the nails. This is where traditional hardwood flooring differs from laminates or ';click floor';.

I cannot ever recall seeing a hardwood floor that was not nailed, but just installed ';friction fit'; and allowed to float. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it. A professional install is recommended, but if you're into DIY projects, you can rent the flooring nailer at most larger building centres.
read the instruction manual they usually come with it.

If it is a 3/4'; profile then most definitely it needs to be nailed down

If it is the Thin profile 5/16'; thick then it would more than likely need to be glued down.

Only try to float it if the instructions say you can
If this is hardwood flooring, you need to nail it down...99% of hardwood is tongue and groove...you need that to hide the nails...make sure your sub floor is glued and screwed down so you have no squeaks.

I would suggest having it installed by a professional.
Rent a nail gun specifically for nailing down T %26amp; G flooring. The rental company can tell you exactly how to use it.
yes nail it
