The gutters do not leak they have to be nailed to wood to hang if you can get the metal behind them why would you take t hem down?Would you take the gutters down when hanging vinyl when they are nailed up and would be damaged?
I'd take them down. It isn't really hard to pull them. If the spikes don't pull out I'd use a bolt cutter to cut them off.
It is better to take them off, inspect for damage and repair any damage now.
Leaks around gutters cause a lot of damage. If you live in a cold climate you want to protect the wood behind the gutters as best you can. Where I live ice dams in the gutters cause water to back up into the soffit and the vinyl may offer some protection to the gutter board.
A good builder will use ';ice guard'; on the roof eaves and even carry it down the sub gutter board to protect the framing.
