What can I use to calm a dog down to be able to cut his nails, our Vet is not near us.?

He is a large dog, very strong,he hates Vets, needs a muzzle at the Vets, yet he is wonderful with kids. What can I use to calm a dog down to be able to cut his nails, our Vet is not near us.?
One easy way to cut a bad dog's nails is to run his sturdy leash through a chain link fence (around the post) and pull him up snug against it. You pretty much have to use a choke collar - not to choke him, but to keep him from backing out of the collar.

Then, just keep clear of his teeth and trim away. Try to make is as pleasant as possible for him - give him treats, don't cut into the quick, praise him when he's not trying to bite you. We did this with the guard dogs that sometimes stayed at our kennel and no one ever go bit. I prefer not to tranquilize a dog unless absolutely necessary. What can I use to calm a dog down to be able to cut his nails, our Vet is not near us.?
My vet sticks a treat in my dog's mouth before trimming. Get a good friend to hold the pointy part (the head end) with a treat or a rawhide between the teeth, and another friend to keep weight on the dog as he lies down... then work as carefully but quickly as you can. Don't cut the quick of any of his claws or you'll have a chase every time he sees the clippers from here on.
We have to muzzle one of our large dogs to clip his nails. He's a sweety untill you touch his feet. Buy a muzzle and do it yourself. But, for us, it takes two people. one to hold him and one to clip the nails. Have fun and have a Doggie treat ready for when he's all done.
Do it when he is sleeping.
wait til hes sleeping like after you walk him, lol my dog needs a muzzle at the vets also, shes a st bernard and its quite embarrassing cause she looks nasty wif one on, but shes a big dote, just nos that the vet isnt usually nice to her so growels at him lol
I rub my dog's stomach and talk to him while my husband cuts his nails. My daughter-in-law said she put a towel over her dogs head and held it while my son cut the nails.
unless you have the proper tool don't do it.

i presume as vet far away that your dog may walk a lot more on grass than concrete. the concrete can help to help the nails keep short.

now i would strongly recommend that you take the dog out for a Good long run tire him out . get him used to the clippers let him play with it even to the extent of playing fetch with it. dogs tend to be very aware of new things within there boundary and can react . So tire him out and get him used to the nail clippers. you should also in the future walk him on concrete , Be patient make it a good experience for the dog talk and praise him during the clipping and reward him each time he has no reaction to it,
Try an over the counter canine stress reducer called ';Rescue Remedy'; or one called ';Canine calm and cool';. Sometimes they will take enough of the edge off to do the work.

I have have a rescue who is extremely body sensitive and absolutely hates to be touched. For him we had to give him aceapromazine (by prescription), a mild sedative, and then used two people to work on him.

We have tried various methods of desensitization and positive re-enforcement with other dogs but haven't been overly successful with those methods.
A vet would use a tranquilizer like phenobarbitol.
i hope this helps i know it is a lot to read

In an ideal world, we would only have well-socialized and well-handled puppies to shape for calm nail trimming. But in the real world there are dogs who for many reasons don't like their feet handled. So we need to begin a desensitization program for these dogs to be successful. If the dog is very fearful of the clippers, first begin by sitting in a known environment with the clippers in your hand the sofa or your favorite lounge chair. Let your body language reflect a clam ordinariness. Hold the clippers in your hand and have a bag of treats and the clicker ready to go. Let dog come to check out what you have in your hand, and if he reaches out, sniffs at the clippers, click and treat. Move clippers around on your lap, hold them out in your hand, click and treat for any interaction. Squeeze clippers, activating them, and click and treat for the dog not balking. If dog balks when clippers are activated, just ignore the dog. When dog, from your peripheral vision, is no longer worried (throwing calming signals), squeeze clippers again and quickly click and TOSS treat to dog. Continue squeezing clippers and rapidly click and toss treats. Do this for however long it takes the dog to realize you are holding something that he doesn't need to fear. The open bar/closed bar is good here, as Jean Donaldson explains. When the clippers are in hand, the bar is open and treats flow fast. When the clickers are put away, treats stop. If the dog mainly stresses on a grooming table, when his feet are picked up, toes manipulated, now is the time to start desensitizing him to this. Take a day or two to practice just putting the dog in the grooming noose, if necessary, and clicking him for allowing you to spread his toes. Don't attempt to clip a nail until the dog is no longer showing stress over having his legs lifted, his toes spread and manipulated. If you don't use a grooming table for nail clipping, and use your lap instead, with the dog lying on its back or side, then work on getting the dog comfortably in that position while you click and treat for calmness. Pick up the clippers and hold them in the palm of your hand, and slowly touch the dog's body with the clippers. C/T for all quiet behaviors. Then activate clippers while still rapidly reinforcing calm and quiet. Don't attempt to clip nails until the dog is not stressing around the presence of the clippers. Some dogs only begin stressing once the clippers are activated. Practice desensitizing to the sound of that sliding metal which probably indicates to a dog that something stressful or something painful is coming. Know your dog anatomy well, and be sure you are prepared before you do an actual cut on the nail. If you cut too high - into the quick of the nail then you'll have a much harder time gaining his confidence and will be back to square one. For the desensitization program, you truly need to make certain each experience in the presence of the clickers is non-stressful, non-painful.
I have the same problem. We use two people with the one person doing the trimming and the other person holding. The holder stays at the head, holding the head and lifts one leg up, which leaves the other three feet flat on the floor. The trimmer cuts the nails while they are on the floor. This is also done while the dog is crowded into a corner. We don't have a muzzle but plan to use that as well. We leave the dew claws to last when the dog is a bit more settled. Hope this helps - it works for us.
First off you need two people to control a big dog. One person to hold him down and the other to clip the nails. What I was told from my vet the best way to get a dog to calm down is flip him on his side and hold his legs for a while and don't let him get up until he is calm. He may not like it but the more often you do it the easier it will be to calm him down. that is also a good was to clip his nails once he gets use to it.

My dog won't stop resisting when I try to cut her nails. What can I do to calm her down?

When I say resisting she is on the verge of biting me. I took her to the vet and it took three men to hold her while the vet cut her nails. I adopted her from the animal welfare league and don't know if she has had any problems with getting her nails cut in the past.My dog won't stop resisting when I try to cut her nails. What can I do to calm her down?
First, make sure the dog has just been exercised - either go for a jog or play fetch. This is much easier if the dog is worn out.

Second. You will need lots %26amp; lots of yummy treats (like hot dogs). This might also take 2 people one to gently hold the pup down %26amp; the other to cut the toe nail. The non-cutter person should put a treat deep in their hand %26amp; make a fist, this way the dog kind of has to work to get the treat out which will keep her mind off of the nail cutting.

Trim the nail %26amp; give another treat %26amp; big praise. If she will let you do another nail or two keep going, but if not stop %26amp; start again tomorrow. Sometimes it will take a few days to get them all done.

Other options - you can try using a dremel tool. Use same approach to get dogs acclimated to the tool. If you are cutting with normal clippers, her nails might be too big %26amp; you are just mashing the nail. You might want to use three cuts per nail - first %26amp; second cuts are the sides to make the nail into a pointy ';V'; then third cut to trim the point of the ';V.'; This way has more cutting, but less mashing. My dog won't stop resisting when I try to cut her nails. What can I do to calm her down?
Counter-conditioning and desensitization should do it. Start at a level that she can handle, just before she would normally start to react. For instance, if you can touch her feet but she gets upset when she sees the clippers, start by holding a foot and then giving a treat. Do this four or five times. Next, lie the clippers on the floor near you and hold her foot and then give a treat. When she is relaxed for this, move the clippers closer and repeat. Eventually, hold the clippers and give a treat, touch a nail with the clippers and treat, put a nail in the clippers but don't clip and give a treat, clip one nail and treat, clip two nails and treat, clip a paw and treat, etc.

If she isn't treat motivated, use whatever she loves as a reward.

I have also had very good experience with giving my dog and my cat Rescue Remedy before clipping their nails to calm them down.
My dog hates getting his nails cut and his ears cleaned. I know that the reason why he doesn't want to get them cut is because they are very close to his skin so what I do (although it may sound a bit weird) is that I take him a bath just so that his nails are loosened up and immediately after drying him up a bit with a towel I take my nail filer and i file them down. It's easier for me to file them down than it is to get them cut because I don't want to hurt him.

Another thing you can do is take her to Petsmart or Petco. They are usually pretty good with stuff like that and they have the equipment to restrain while they are trimming, bathing or cutting.

Good Luck!
You really have to be calm yourself!!!!! They featured this on last weeks Dog Whisperer. The thing that they kept saying was that the handler had to be calm, and try to relax the dog. So one person massaged and relaxed the dog, (which apparently took 30 minutes), while the other person cut the nails. I know that is true when my husband cuts our dogs nails. He is the one that needs to relax, and stay relaxed. If the dog gets stressed, my husband stops, and waits for the dog to relax before he continues. It may take a while, but eventually they get it done. Maybe you could play some music that relaxes you, and brings your stress down. good luck
Is she sleepy at all in the mornings? If so, try to do it first thing before she fully wakes up. It may mean doing one nail every day,

other than that, instead of being held down at the vet, they could give her a sedative and do it.

and if that doesn't work, walk her a lot on sidewalks. I hardly ever have to trim my dog's toenails because they're kept nice %26amp; blunt by the walks.
first of all, you can't be doing that if she resists so much. You might end up hurting her. You need to make her feel comfortable. Play with her paws a lot so she feels comfortable you touching, rubbing, grabbing her paws. Once she's okay, try to clip it again. Your experience will be much better.
Ignore her antics. If she tries to bite, use a muzzle. If at any time she settles down and behaves, praise and reward.

Once she knows she HAS to get her nails done, like it or not, she'll get used to it.
when she's sleeping block her in against a wall or something, by sitting squashed up to her (not too hard- just so she cant move)! have someone hold her head down for you so she cant bite and just cut them! - harsh i know! make sure you spoil her after! good luck!
I suggest you use treats. Put her wherever you're going to clip her nails. Then as soon as she's up there give her a treat. While she eats try to clip her nails. Give her treats every time she sits still.
Wait till she's in a deep sleep, then sneak up and clip on or two of her nails, if she starts to freak out. Wait untill shes sleeping again.
pet her. give her love. show her you care and that it needs to be done.

Can I file down the sides of store-bought fake nails?

Whenever I put them on they're really wide. What can I do to make sure they don't look ridiculously fat?Can I file down the sides of store-bought fake nails?
yes you can file them down to the size and shape you want but do make sure you have a good nail file haha because it might take a while if I were you I would just get my nails done at a nail solan it may cost a little more on where you live but it could be cheap as well where I livea full set is 25$ so look around plus they will last longerCan I file down the sides of store-bought fake nails?
yeah i always have this problem, the ones meant 4 my ring finger fit my thumb and so on...... yes you can most definatly file them down however it does take years and so i used 2 just despare. however if you invest in an electrical nail file , it doesnt have to b an expensive top of the range one, they are ready way quicker. you may think this is a waste of money but it is totaly worth it as it saves you time and energy and is wayyyy cheaper than going to a salon everytime!!!

hope this helps! : ]

good luck

either you mean stairs as in stairways, in which they get me to do it, or stares as glares upon, in which if caught, you will know, and suffer the consequences of you actions,

I sure am glad you answered my question since you're such a genius. My husband is dead. I am a widow. I don't get money for being a mother. Congratulations since you get money for being a father. For some of us, being a parent is about being a parent, and not money. You should grow up and recheck your priorities. And rethink judgemental comments when you have no clue what you are talking about. Getting paid to be a parent---how messed up is that.

I feel that way about a few people these days. Just try to minimize contact or you'll go nuts!
Ignore it. Your boss can always fire you and I'm guessing you need your job.
Just ignore it. That's the privilege of a boss so welcome to the real world lol. Just do you job the best you can and it would be a bonus if you can do it in a way, that he can't find any faults with it. I've been dealing with this kind of situation for the past ten years now and I got used to it.
Unless you are ready to look for a new job, you will have to ignore it I guess. Good Luck!

Whats a good way to stop bitting your nails down to the skin.?

i dotn only chew the nail i chew the skin and i have hangnails cuts riggid nails white marks what can i do i usually have fake nails but now we dont have enoug money what should i do ??Whats a good way to stop bitting your nails down to the skin.?
I don't know what it's called but its something that they put on a child's hands to prevent them from putting them in their mouthes. It has a very horrible taste but it's not harmful. If you are that of a child and can't stop biting your nails, try washing your hands in vinegar, lemon juice or something that has a horrible taste but can't harm you.Whats a good way to stop bitting your nails down to the skin.?
    Get braces...
    stop biting them!
This sounds crazy, but I'm a reformed nail biter, and for the first couple of weeks, I wore gloves and actually covered up my fingers. Also get tons of gum and chewy candy.
put some clear nail pollish on them and chow on gum.
Put tape on your nails until your habit is cured. After that resist the temptation.
it only takes two weeks to break a habait so i would put a yucky toxic on your nails then every time u chew u taste it. worked 4 my sister.
There are products that you can buy at walgreens that you paint on like nailpolish that make your nails taste bad when you bite them. I would recommend buying a bottle of this stuff and painting it on. One brand is ';Orly No Bite'; which costs $3.99 for a bottle. It is nontoxic but taste bad when you put it in your mouth.
mix a lot of house holed item till you make somthing really stinky and nasty tasting then put on your nails! it will teach you that your nails are nasty and they tate will stay wiht you forever.
what should you do about the way the nails look or the habbit?

...the habbit- you can always try to break by putting icky things on the nails to discourage biting...such as this stuff http://www.ulta.com/control/product/~pro鈥?/a>

Breaking the habbit would be the best way to restore nice looking nails...

the look? I'm not sure- you might have to ask your manicurist or someone who knowsmore about manicures for advice on a temporary solution.
Try painting them with white (clear) iodine. The taste is horribly bitter.
Try thinking about the fact that your fingers are the dirtiest germiest part of your entire body before sticking them in your mouth!Just think about it..how many things does a person touch in llike 5 minutes?Who know's what kinda cooties your putting in your mouth when you bite your nails!Hope this helps you lol :P
Put tape around your nails or dab the skin right above the nail with nail polish remover.
NAIL POLISH! and a conscious effort. The nail polish reminds you not to bite or chew on the nails and skin. It's like a string tied around your finger to help you remember. I would also say get a manicure (not as much as fake nails, maybe 15.00 depending on where you go). The nicer your nails look to begin with, the more motivation to keep them that way.
Well, what helpe me stop was to put hot sauce or salsa on my fingers.

Would you take the gutters down when hanging vinyl when they are nailed up and would be damaged?

The gutters do not leak they have to be nailed to wood to hang if you can get the metal behind them why would you take t hem down?Would you take the gutters down when hanging vinyl when they are nailed up and would be damaged?
I'd take them down. It isn't really hard to pull them. If the spikes don't pull out I'd use a bolt cutter to cut them off.

It is better to take them off, inspect for damage and repair any damage now.

Leaks around gutters cause a lot of damage. If you live in a cold climate you want to protect the wood behind the gutters as best you can. Where I live ice dams in the gutters cause water to back up into the soffit and the vinyl may offer some protection to the gutter board.

A good builder will use ';ice guard'; on the roof eaves and even carry it down the sub gutter board to protect the framing.

How can I get my 9 month old Lab puppy to settle down enough so that he can get his nails trimmed?

He really needs it,but I tried and he went nuts,so I took him to Petsmart grooming and he was even more hyper about it there.

He has recently had obedience training, and took to that well. However,he wants his nails left alone!!How can I get my 9 month old Lab puppy to settle down enough so that he can get his nails trimmed?
touch your dogs foot, and give a treat. repeat all day. next day, start by touching foot and giving treat, then switch to touching foot with trimmer and treating. continue all day.

same thing next day, only substitute holding paw, and touching with tool at end. Don't clip yet! just keep that positive association going.

repeat for another day. Keep progressing this way, till he's comfy, and looking forward to it. Just trim one the first time, and give him a handful of treats. soon he'll be begging you to trim his nails. How can I get my 9 month old Lab puppy to settle down enough so that he can get his nails trimmed?
I had a cocker that just freaked when I tried to clip his nails. He struggled terribly. My husband and I tried laying on him and holding him, to no avail. We were afraid he would dislocate a joint if we kept trying. The vet said we just didn't know how. She had me leave the room. When she called me back in she was all desheveled (sp?), sweaty and exhausted. She couldn't do it either. I figured this out:

Find something he likes: petting, stroking, brushing. Do it until he lays quietly. Hold and rub his feet, getting him used to them getting gentle handling. Have an emery board handy. Lightly hold one paw and gently run the emery board on a nail. Do it more just back and forth lightly (you don't have to actually be effective yet). Continue with a bit more pressure and holding each nail more firmly. All 5 of my dogs find this to be not only tolerable, but soothing. Then you have a choice. You can either relax them with a bit of filing and then slip in the clipper and clip one then immediately go back to filing as though nothing happened, or if your dog still hates the clippers too much, try just filing them regularly. Consider it a bonding session. Let him lay on your lap while you watch TV and file his nails. Oh, yes. . .and give treats throughout the session. My dogs just go to sleep. Of course, they go to sleep now when I clip/groom them with the clippers also. Good luck. Let me know if it works. I wonder about the little rotary nail sander they sell now, also.
i LOVE labs and i know a lot about them so i defiantly know that they are extremely hyper.first, let the dog know that the clippers wont hurt and let them sniff and know that its all right.every day put them near ur dog and let it sniff it and stroke with it on its paw to say its all right.afetr a week or so of duing that not earlier then start clipping.make sure before u do this u introduce it and clip and all after a long walk or good run outside.the key thing of training any pup especially labs is to tire them out first and get all there energy out so thats how they will be calm then clip it.u could also have some assistence from someone by having ur husband keep the puppy still and sitting while u clip but remember do it after the pup tires itself out caue labs can be hard to handle if u start training later in life cause they are wickd strong and energetic so do ALL ur training as a pup.good start!!do the same with leash training it get it used to and stiff the leash then every day put it on for a few min. then extend time as time goes on and then u can walk ur dog without it restling the leash.just an fyi-cause a lot of dog owners have that problem cause they never first introduce them with new stuff just get right on with it.remember to be patient.introduce the brush too and all thoe things at early age so they will like it cause they wont if u do it when they are old.hope i helpped:)
Don't laugh, my friend lies on the ground, and clips her dogs nails while he is standing up. It is less drama and the puppy is focusing on balance, so there isn't much protesting. It may look strange, but it works for her. My vet clips my dogs nails, and I bake her peanut butter cookies.
You might want to try going to Whole Foods for some place like that and getting an herbal mix to calm your dog. It really does work. We used to give it to our Cocker who freaked out about everything.

Over time you may be able to stop using it too. After a few months of being on that mix our Cocker was able to realize that her fears had no merit and she kept herself calm on her own.
Benadryl! We give it my my dog every time he has to go for a car ride he really hates the car. But just give your pup the amount that your vet recommends. I use children's because it is easier. Works every time. And my vet recommends it! It won't hurt him at all.
For me personally, I do it in the evening when my puppy is settling down to sleep. I just stroke him lightly and trim the nails.
Do a nail at the time, and reward. One a day. Front paws are more sensitive. Forget Petsmart. Obedience has nothing to do with this.

  • Does hardwood flooring need to be glued down or just nailed?

It depend on the wood. Engineered hardwoods are stronger, and are generally glued, though the trend now is to use floating floors, which are neither glued or nailed. If you are installing on concrete, a floating floor or glued floor works best, as you elimante the need for a subfloor. The key is, you have to follow the manufacturer's reccomendations, as this is required for any kind of a warranty. If you are installing on a wood subfloor, and nailing is an option, nailing is preferred, as you save the cost of the glue, which averages around $1 a square foot.Does hardwood flooring need to be glued down or just nailed?
There is not enough information to give a good answer. I will give you some ways to figure it out. If the hardwood floor is 3/4'; thick you usually nail it down when on plywood, and if on oriental strand board (OSB) you usally use staples. You should always use a vapor barrier under hardwood floor. Rosin paper, or felt paper. If the flooring is 3/8'; you usally glue down and use a brad nailer no vapor barrier.Does hardwood flooring need to be glued down or just nailed?
it depends on the wood...if u were a hardwood floor, i'd nail you.

Yeah, And pull the nails out when it's time to mow the lawn or take out the trash? I can't believe I just said that...I'm as sick as you are.....
Sunshine if your are good woman, you won't have nail him down. He'll come runnig to you. But to be a good woman sometimes means you have to be a bad woman - and I don't mean 'not giving him some'. That's just wrong, and that what makes man cheat.

I got white tip acrylic nails and want them cut down... is that possible?

I got my nails done with a white tip and I want to get them cut but then there won't be much white left. What will they do then? Will they paint white or what? How can I calm down my dog so I can trim his nails?

I have a white Shepherd that is VERY hyper. He wont stay still at all. I can't get him to stay still even for a second in order to trim his nails, and they are getting way to long. Is there any over the counter med that I can give him in order to relax/fall asleep long enough to get the job done? How can I calm down my dog so I can trim his nails?
try hugging him or her. if that doesn't work i found out you can give a dog benedryl a kids dose. but just not too often. i give it to my dog when we travel and he's preety calm on the road. How can I calm down my dog so I can trim his nails?

I used the Benedryl with the OK from his vet. It saved me a vet bill, and was also easyer on him.

I have the same problem with my dog. Its not about being hyper so much as the dog not being comfortable with someone touching his nails. Walking your dog, does trim them down a bit, but you would still need to have them cut. Do not try it yourself, if your dog continues to fuss, because you can slip and you might cut 2 far..and the dog will bleed. You should try slowly.. try just touching your dogs paws so he can get used to you touching it.. without having to worry about snipping his nails. This takes time, so you will have to be patient. Try congratulating him everytime he lets you touch it.. so he will think its a GOOD thing to have you touch his paws. This does take time! In the meantime, you should have the VET do it. They are professionals. I took my dog, and it was $ 10 bucks. Good Luck. P.S-- Do not force your dog.. Dont hug him.. or try to ';restrain him'; .. all you will do is scare him.. and make the situation worse!

Well---- Being such a ';hyper'; dog might not be soo good because as you can see it is preventing you from doing things like '; cutting his nails';. Walking your dog.. you will see slim to no difference in a day or so.. It will just make them less sharper but you will not see a 2inch cut- or anything significant. I suggest getting a trainer or behaviorist that can teach you how to ';Calm ';your dog down when the time is necessary. LOTS OF Dogs are ';happy'; to be around, and hyper, BUT , it has to be controlled or it will cause interference.
I would take him to the groomer, my dogs are the same way. At the vet, you can ask for some setivives. Or some other pill to calm him down. I would take him to the groomer though, it is easy and he gets a bath.
If there is no way to calm him down ,take him on walks he'll appreciate it and so will you. When you take your dog on a walk his nails get trimmed down because of the pave ment. If that doesn't work put him on a leash and have someone hold him down.

How to slow down, or even better, stop my nail growth??

it's annoying!! i hate filing my nails all the time!!How to slow down, or even better, stop my nail growth??
The only way to completely stop nail growth is to have the doctor remove the nails and destroy the nail bed. I don't think that's a very good option. The rate at which your nails grow is different from person to person, and I believe it has a lot to do with your individual genetic makeup, so I don't think there is anything you can do to slow it down. Sorry. How to slow down, or even better, stop my nail growth??
as long as you are shedding dead skin cells, your nails are going to grow. Actually, even after you are dead your hair and nails keep growing until your skin is gone.
Girl!!! I am sooo jealous I cant get mine to grow for sh*t they crack and peal or just break off. I would trade you in a heart beat.
I've been a nail-biter my entire life (chewing on one as we speak)...you could take that up! But I wouldn't recommend it...the recently gnawed-on look isn't very attractive ;-)
Stop eating healthy food or use can use chemicals to burn them but both of those are stupid. Fast growing, healthy nails are a sign that your body as a whole is healthy.
you cant unless you want to throw off your normal body functions
    cut them

How far down should you clip your dog's nails??

And do they have to have special clippers or can I use regular ones that i use?????How far down should you clip your dog's nails??
If you can't see the quick, just slice off a bit from the end every few days. The quick will recede as the nail gets shorter allowing you to cut it without hitting the quick.

Humans have flat nails while dogs have round ones so, unless your dog has really tiny nails then you need to get one made for dogs. They are not expensive and last a long time. I like the scissors style as I can see more clearly what I am doing.

If you don't want to do it at all, you can take your dog to a groomers.

Here is an article with an illustration and some photos of dog trimmers. There is also an electronic clipper that supposedly senses the blood vessel so that you don't hit.

It helps to desensitize your dog to nail trimming by playing with nails (while feeding treats). Some dogs don't mind at all while other dogs must think you are going to cut their legs off.

http://www.metpet.com/Reference/Dogs/Gro鈥?/a>How far down should you clip your dog's nails??
You cut them a little above the quick, although you have to be very careful if they have all black nails. They are very hard to cut. The dogs nails are hard to cut with regular clippers, you can get pet nail nippers for pet's at Wal-Mart.
It is called the ';quick';. Actually look at your own nails where the white part ends and the pink part starts. Simply put. Notice when you clip too close to pink part your nail bleeds? Same with a dog. And no don't use regular nail clippers. Go to your nearest pet store and ask to see their nail clippers. PetsMart and Pet Co have a wide variety to choose from and they will educate you on their use.
First, get some good heavy-weight clippers from your pet store. Get the ones that actually open similarly to scissors and NOT the ones that are a guillotine-style. Also get a heavy-duty nail file and keep styptic powder or even corn-starch on hand in case of bleeding.

If your dog's nails are clear, it makes the job way easier. You can easily see where the nail stops and bloodline (or ';quick';) begins. Since you are new at this, I would only clip the tips and file a bit just to blunt the edge. You will get more comfortable with it as time goes on and will be able to cut more.

If you dog's nails are black (like my dog's), this makes it a bit tougher. I actually use a Dremel tool with the sandpaper attachment on my dog's nails. It takes more time, but I'm assured that I'll never cut his quick!

You will have to have your dog lying on his back so you can see where the quick is. Again, just trim the tips and file the rest until you get comfortable. If your dog's nails are really long, you will have to repeat this weekly. The longer a dog's nails, the longer the quick goes. Luckily, if you shave a bit off every week, the quick will recede over time.

If you happen to nick or even cut the quick, it will hurt your dog and you will think he's bleeding to death. The blood just never seems to stop. DON'T PANIC! If you put a gob of corn starch or styptic powder on it and hold firmly with a dampened cloth, it will eventually stop.

This is a really unpleasant, but necessary task. I wish you luck!
Get special clippers at the Pet Store (Different sizes depending on what kind of dog / size of nail). You want to cut to just above the quick.

The best way is really to have your Vet show you how - If you cut into the quick, it will be very painful for the dog and it will bleed.
Just take ur dog to petsmart. I took mines and it only cost $4.
The best way is really to have your vet show you how to do it properly. If you cut into the quick, it will be VERY painful for the dog and it will bleed.
a good rule of thumb is to hold the nail and clip it so it's about even with the pad of the paw past the curved portion... if the nails are light-colored, you can see where the blood is and avoid it... regular nail clippers can work on smaller dogs, but it's best to get some dog nail clippers.. they're less than $10... also, good to have a styptic pencil handy in case you do get a bit too short... good luck :-)
For the first time you can take your dog to the groomer and have them clip the nails while they are clipping the nails ask them how to clip the nails.
you really should use the special clippers. Clip before the ';quick'; (where you see the blood running to it.) If you're not sure where this is it's safest to just clip the tip off. Those special clippers help ensure you don't cut too far.

  • My dog's nail appears is cracked down to the quick...?

About a week ago we noticed our boxer female had cracked one of her nails. The crack runs lengthwise along the nail (starts at the tip and is cracked all the way back to where the nail is bedded in her paw). We are not sure how she did it. The crack started out narrow but appears to be slowly widening. She does not favor that paw and lets me handle the paw/toe without a fuss, but I am worried about infection (she occasionally licks it at it but no more than she licks at her other paws). She has an appointment with the vet on Monday but is there anything I can do in the mean time to prevent infection? My dog's nail appears is cracked down to the quick...?
This may sound weird but you could use supper glue in the crack, so it wont break farther. It will also keep dirt from getting into the crack.

If i cut down my nails will the grow stronger/faster?

my nails are kind of long but the tips are see through and really weak so if i cut the short and even will the grow faster and strong? If i cut down my nails will the grow stronger/faster?
no, but there are some nail polishes made to strengthen the nails. If i cut down my nails will the grow stronger/faster?
No. You can strengthen your nails by eating foods that help nail growth. Your nails are protein so anything that helps to have your body use the protein better. Plus protein of course.
NO! That has NOTHINg to do with Strength. Try to eat more stuff with calcium 'C';. And use those polishes to strenghen up your nails. They help.

    Hardwood/ Nailed down Vs Floating?

I was mainly told that the Floating installation is a much better sound insulator than the nailed downs method. But, I have just been told by a retailer that it only applies to when it is installed over a thick layer of concrete.

To them, it is the concrete base that insulates. They say that for installation over plywood, the nail down is probably even a better way to go, even as far as sound insulation is concerned.Hardwood/ Nailed down Vs Floating?
if the material/hardwood is toung and grouve and 3/4 inch thick solid wood weither its pre finished or raw (needs finish) the best method is to fasten it to the sub floor even if it concrete if it is being instaled over ply wood, angle nailer is a great meathod it punches the boards together as well as drives a large nail through the toung at a angle in to the ply wood before you lay the hard wood on the plywood it is recomended you roll out a layer of red rasin paper, or builder paper even seen tar paper this does 2 things it will be a vapor barior aswell as keep any slight movement from the hard wood and plywood from squiking( wood on wood can squik if slight movement) and if the wood is to be installed over concrete then glueing it down is easyist but you could go a step father and glue down 3/4 plywood subfloor first even glue/mason nail slats of preasure treated wood at 16inches on center then nail/glue the ply wood to them the spaces between the slats can be filled with foam sheeting to insalate the floor...if the material is PERGO or composit hard wood system they get glued together and FLOAT and should get layed over a thin foam sheet rember the whole floor needs to float leave 1/2 around the edges and do not fasten any part to the floor the 1/4 round that you would use on the edges should be nained to the wall so the floor can move under it this is a good system for slightly wavey floors and will self leavel the slight inperfections well good luck hope i was of some helpHardwood/ Nailed down Vs Floating?
Hardwood floors are always better if you can afford to go that way. It sounds like you live in a condo were noise is a problem. They make a noise reducer for hardwoods and for tile that goes under the floor before you install. It's alittle on the expensive side but it works great.
HI, I just had a floating hardwood floor installed a few weeks ago...onto concrete slab.

If you are talking about sound insulation...it is not the way to go...the first thing I noticed was how much it amplifies everything in that room!

When you see someone looking down often and playing with there finger nails would you assume there nervous?

When I say playing with there nails, I mean like looking at them and touching them, and picking at them a little with your other nails. Would you think this person has a problem? When you see someone looking down often and playing with there finger nails would you assume there nervous?
A sign of insecurity. yes I will conclude that the person is nervousWhen you see someone looking down often and playing with there finger nails would you assume there nervous?
I do that a lot, with me it tends to be from boredom, however, with a VERY small percentage of people it can be something more, and by that i mean less than 5% (estimate)
I would assume their anxious, nervous, or really bored.

I don't think they have a problem, though. Everyone does that sometimes.
It Would seem that they might have something on their minds; a pre-occupation...!! Or, it could be a 'sign' of real boredom; it depends on the situation...!!
i would think they are bored or nervous. i do that when i am really nervous

How do I anchor track down for model railroad--N-Guage-when nails won't hold?

I am building a layout on a hollow core door and I am concerned that the luan is not allowing the tiny nail to bite. Becasue I am using flex track, the cork railbed is not sufficient. How do I anchor track down for model railroad--N-Guage-when nails won't hold?
I've used latex medium to glue down N-scale Flex track !! I use pins and weights to help hold it down... but on luann or light plywood, it's PERFECT to adhere it to the roadbed.

I've also seen folks do it with thin beads of latex caulk.. but I think that would work best with HO track.

GOOD LUCKHow do I anchor track down for model railroad--N-Guage-when nails won't hold?
Well if i was doing it i would glue each piece of track to a thin board.I would make sure the board was wider than the tracks on each side. When connecting the tracks glue the board down again. When finished you can either cover the both sides of the board with modeling clay of paper machie.Paper machie and glue would be alot cheaper than modeling clay or plasticine. If i had alot of money i would use plasticine as you can make the ground look better and you can stick little trees,Bush's and people along the track.

Nail problem...my fingernail split, down the middle.?

What can I do to prevent this or fix it.I've always had long healthy nails before this and I've been dealing with this close to a yr.I've tried cutting it down but it regrows back with the split.Nail problem...my fingernail split, down the middle.?
If the nail is snaggly and breaks too far down to trim off, here is what I do... Get some clear nail polish and white tissue paper... Paint on some polish, then put a small piece of tissue paper on that %26amp; then paint over the tissue paper with clear nail polish. It sort of creates a fake nail and makes it feel better %26amp; not snag on stuff. This really doesn't look horrible by itself, but you can put other nail polish on top of it. When you clean the old polish off, just be careful and keep doing the tissue paper thing again until the nail grows out. This has made me comfy when I had horrible nail accidents... Maybe also take some vitamins %26amp; eat some Jello to make the nails healthier... Good luck!Nail problem...my fingernail split, down the middle.?
Rub hand cream and nail oil in the cuticles and in the roots of the nails after every time you wash them. Moisturizing them makes them stronger and more flexible.

Use a buffer to get a shiny and a polished look instead of using a polish since the friction created by the buffer stimulates the nail growth while nail polish has a drying effect.

Onchorrhexis produces lines or striations in the nail plate. These lines are longitudinal, or in the direction of nail growth.

The cause of Onychorrhexis is not known. It is seen in people with vascular disease. Other chronic diseases, such as Psoriasis, Alopecia areata, Lichen planus and Darier's disease, can also be associated with this fingernail abnormality.

    http://images.google.com/images?hl=en%26amp;re鈥?/a>
This might have to do with genes, because I have heard of some families who have a sixth toenail that they hav einherited and all it is is their nail was split down the middle. It is nothing to worry about.
Maybe its because the split was longer than you knew of and when you cut it off, there was still some splittage. If this keeps happening. I would get some specialists advice. Maybeget some nail hardener or something.
it has to be some kind of fugus. my husband gets that to they sell gel at walmart that is for nails and it works really well.
well go get a manicure first!

    and cut it off

    it will grow much faster

if you do and paint your nails more

sallys helps make it stronger and grow longer
Whenever I get a split nail, I put a couple of coats of nail glue on until it grows out.
i'd say it's one of two things. fungus or thin nails. 1st fungus cream(rx store) 2nd bag balm or udder cream( local grain and feed store).
    OWWW!!!

theres cuticle creams at drug stores or try nail strengthening nail polish.

Ive got tinny lines appear down some of my nails, what does this mean?

this has only happened in the past few months, is it a sight of a zinc deficiency?

any one else had this happen to them?Ive got tinny lines appear down some of my nails, what does this mean?
if they are little red lines that look like splinters, they are called splinter hemorrhages. they are no big deal, just a sign of minor trauma to your nails (like a bruise, sortof)

if they are any other types of lines, they are most likely from lack of protein and b5 deficiency. my boyfriend's vegetarian sister started to get them cuz she wasn't getting half the amount of protein she needed.

The site has pictures (gross, so beware) of possible diseases your nails might have. go check it out. cuz it might just be the simple splinter hemorrhages I was referring to earlier.Ive got tinny lines appear down some of my nails, what does this mean?

Why do we find it neccesary to nail the lid of a coffin down?

    ???????????

ive just always wonderedWhy do we find it neccesary to nail the lid of a coffin down?
Because there's a small chance that the dead person might just be unconcious/in a coma, and if we dont lock it down, they might wake up, want to come back and live with us again, and then we'd have to explain to them what happen--and who wants to do that? So, we lock down the coffin and hope for the best.

peace. Why do we find it neccesary to nail the lid of a coffin down?
To stop zombies. Zombies can have incredible strength but apparently the only thing to stop them is the nails in the coffin. 1 out of 3 dead people turn into zombies... well... you dont see a lot of them walking around do you? IT'S BECAUSE OF THE NAILS MAN!.... It's because of the nails.

    Thank you home depot.
because people are sometimes buried with their valuables and thieves will plunder graves. (nails dont really stop them though)
At one stage in history people were sometimes burried face down to prevent them from coming back to life and digging their way out.... they'd dig downwards.

I think its just old superstition!!
Traditionally, to hinder grave robbers from looting the body and possessions.
Would you want the coffin lit to fall off during transit? Nails are cheaper than hinges in this respect.
so the zombies can't come back and eat our brains. That, or to stop people from stealing bodies maybe.
Do they still do that? I know old times was to keep it on, no hinges.
    To stop zombies, of course.
Haven't you ever seen ';night of the living dead?'; ....I don't want any zombies eating my brain

What can I do to get my dog to calm down so I can cut his nails?

My dog will not let me touch his paws to cut his nails. I have heard benedryl or beer. I am just looking for something that I can get him either to sleep for about 15 mins or settle him down enough to do it. He is German Shepard mix and I am lost for ideas. What can I do to get my dog to calm down so I can cut his nails?
For starters take him for a walk. At least 30 mins or an hour. Get the edge off him. You can't expect him to be good with all that energy. Throw a ball get him tired. You will probably both need a rest after that. A GOOD DOG IS A TIRED DOG. If you are having behaviour problems with your dog he is not getting enough exercise.

    Benedryl may help. Not beer.

He needs to be trained to allow his feet handled.

Touch his toes give a tiny treat or a pce of his food. I don't want you to make your dog over weight. If he will eat his dog food as a treat hand feed him. Hold his feet and toenail for a second give a treat. he has to learn this is a good thing. Take little snips and give a pce of dog food after each snip to begin with or cut his treats small.

Instead of just dumping food into your. Put a little in his dish and pick up his foot and set it down and put in a little more food [if he is a real chow hound he may so happy to get food he won't care if you hold his foot as long as he is getting some food]. Pick up the other foot. gradually hold the nails a second give a pce of food.

Rig you up something to use as a grooming table. Deffinately Get him off the floor.[a friend used a piano bench or coffee table] If you can rig up a noose to tie him with like groomers do that might help give you the upper hand. Each nail a ';good boy'; in a high voice and a treat.

Most Groomers will trim your dogs nails for $5-$7. Most anytime unless they are extremely busy. You could do this once or twice and then maybe you could do it. 3 p's train him. Patience, Persistance and Plenty of Praise.

Contact your vet for help with medicine.

';Mom of three'; above said it very well. What can I do to get my dog to calm down so I can cut his nails?
You need to start touching his paws every day and playing with the nails until he can accept that. Once he does, slowly introduce the clippers, clip maybe one piece off a day and give positive reinforcement the whole time! If you clip and file with an emory board, it's just as effecient as a dremel, and if you have a dog like mine (who hates the noise of anything like that), it works much easier!
Get your vet to do a procedure called a nail cautery. They basically put him under and cut his nails back to the quicks which will stunt the growth, but not detur it. It does cut down on the frequency of getting their nails done and it is practically painless afterwards. They send home antibiotics and pain meds with them. Procedure price varies from vet to vet but the one I work for charges around $60 for everything.
Would he sit still for a vet to do it? If not, he may require a light sedation so you can get it done. My dads' dog will sit still for the vet, but not my dad. But he still tries so that she will get used to it. Sometimes dogs will get used to their paws being touched, and the feel and sound of the clippers... and they calm right down like nothing is happening. I personally think people should leave it up to a vet or groomer. If you cut too far, you can cut into the quick and they can bleed to death if you don't have the stuff to fix it.
Practice, practice practice, practice! This is a training issue, and you need to teach him that it's okay. Sit quietly with him a few times a day and gently pet him, then his legs, moving ever closer to the foot until he will let you fiddle with his feet. It may take a couple weeks to get there, but you will.

Please do not give your dog beer. That's just silly, and potentially harmful to you and him. Do you want him to lose his ability to inhibit his bite?

If you have worked with him for a few weeks and still can't get it, *then* talk to your vet.

    Good luck.
If it gets really bad, see a vet or groomer.

Whenever he's lying around and is calm, rub his paws. Rub them whenever you can, which will get him to get used to it. For my beagle I randomly give him treats while I'm cutting his nails, it helps him to just live with it. Good luck.
Do not cut his nails - buy a 20-30 cordless dremel and grind them - that is what I do with my 2 greyhounds and my golden retriever. Cutting can be too painful especially if you get to close to his quick.
What is something he/she really likes to do(does the german shephard like playing ball) If so maybe have someone hold a ball away from the dog and the dog will maybe stare at it then cut really carefully!

Can i file down my own gel nails, or will it effect the coating?

i'm thinking about filing them down, because i don't know if they will be to long for work or not.Can i file down my own gel nails, or will it effect the coating?
I regularly have gel or acrylic nails done as i find them to look more uniform than my own. I often file them too, although i use a set of 4 different ones, each with a variation in grit texture. The most coarse is used to shape the nail %26amp; will get through thick gel/acrylic with no issues. The remaining three files are essentially a set of ';buffers';, you can pick these up in drug stores or nail bars for a small cost, they will leave your nails with the original shine you left the salon with...finish with a top coat of clear polish applied in 3 strokes (one in the middle, two either side) and nobody will be any wiser that you've touched them up yourself :)Can i file down my own gel nails, or will it effect the coating?
Vancouver all the way and I don't even have to explain why is the best city in Canada....

Many reasons why toronto is NOT....

'; I think Toronto sucks because it's very overrated. It's just a crappy version of New York City, and all the Toronto radio stations talk about it as if it were some American cliche, where dreams and miracles meet reality, when really, it's just a big dump.

Drive twenty minutes out of the rich downtown business districts, and you're in the slums. It makes Harlem look like Beverly Hills.

There are bums sleeping on the sidewalks and most areas look so run-down that I wouldn't dare to stop my car, much less get out of it. I'm tired of waking up to ';another stabbing/rape/shoot-out in Toronto last night'; on the morning news.

Actually, what I hate most about Toronto is what they did the the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). It was such a beautiful old building, and now it looks like it sprouted some kind of ******* robotic tumor. I'm sure I'll get some thumbs down for this answer, but this city is a national disgrace.

    If they can keep Ottawa looking so nice and clean, then they should pay a visit to southern Ontario';

You could do, but they wont stay the same shape you had when you got them done, also it can be quite had to file gel nails as there quite thick and hard just make sure you only do the free edge and dont go over the tip :)
yes, make sure you remember to keep the original shape of the nail though xx

In Nancy Drew:Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, where do you get the nails/hammer to nail the 3 floorboards down??

I'm at the part in the game where I turned the ';dog statues'; that are above the couch, so that a secret door appears below the stairs. To get there, you need to walk across rotten floorboards, and you can't do that, because then you ';die'; in the game. So, I needed to place 3 new boards across the floor to reach the final destination place. But, the thing is, the boards won't stay in place - I need a screwdriver, and some nails or screws. Someone told me that I can find these items in the shed, but I could not see them. If it is in the shed, then where? Is it not in the shed at all? I'm very confused, please help. Thx!In Nancy Drew:Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, where do you get the nails/hammer to nail the 3 floorboards down??
There is a shed and inside a locked wooden chest. To open the chest you need a key, well not really the key brakes and then you need a screwdriver (found at the bottom of the motor boat).

    Hope that helped

Trying to remove decking held down with spiral nails, how can I pull the nails? Don't care about the decking.?

I want to retain the beams and rafters, however the decking has no value. Any suggestions would be appreciated, ThanksTrying to remove decking held down with spiral nails, how can I pull the nails? Don't care about the decking.?
Try using a cats paw to get under the head and pull it. If that doesn't work, Use a bar to lift the board away from the joist. If the nails are holding that well, they will pull through the deck board. This will not hurt the joist. After the board is off, either break off the nail or cut it off with a Sawzall. Hope this helps.

If his nails were long I would bite 3 or 4 of them so he would get the message and cut themWomen-If you noticed your guy's fingernails were long, would you take out your nail file and file them down?
No, I'll give him a nail cutter
    no
Stuff the file! Get those clippers out quick!
lol no ...i would be like eww gross ...and tell him to clip them ...id clip them b4 id file them..
yes i would...my mans gotta look good, even at the exspence of his ego
He wouldn't be able to touch me...anywhere until they were cut
no...i tell him to cut them his self,,,,my man has beautiful fingernails i envy them LOL
He's perfectly capable of cutting his own nails. I'd ask him to do it himself.
Nope, I'd whip out my polish and paint them while he's asleep....hopefully he'd get to work before noticing!
Nope.. I like long nails.. they feel soooo good.
    heck, naw.
    no way
No, I'd just give him the emery board, and tell him to do it himself.

Because, I wouldn't want him to scratch me... anywhere.
No, id tell him to do it himself
No...I'd tell him to file/cut it
I'd never go with a guy with long nails. It turns me off.
no..but i would tell him to do it himself. i abolutely hate it when guys have long fingernails.
    i have clipped

    i have filed

i have polished...(clear polish) i love my man and i want him to look good we do things like that for fun, there's nothing wrong with giving your man a manicure..

he would do the same for me.
    ok..........

    1. Ewwww.....!

    2. Has he heard the thing called ';nail clippers?';

    3. Why?

    %26amp; 4

    Di d you?

    GROSS!!!!!!

I wouldn't! I would mention it to him though.
Sure, if I had the time and inclination to do it. But why can't the guy do it himself?
I'd just tell him to cut them.
i would go out and buy him both clippers and a nail file and if he still did not clean up then i would do it for him.

Do I let him down gently or nail his heart to the locker door?

    At the gym this afternoon I worked out hard, took a shower and had a shave. Slipped inside my locker I found this handwritten note... ';I would love to meet up with you.. call 0414 xxxx. ';

Now thing is.. someone has been watching me, nuded up in the men's change room... and it's obviously some dude ~ but not like I noticed who, as if that makes much difference...

So what do you think I should do? I am not going to take up the offer, being that I am in a monogamus relationship with my darling wife and all..... but should I, ignore it, embarrass this guy or text him a polite not today thanks.Do I let him down gently or nail his heart to the locker door?
haha! I'd post the note with you ';Hello clueless wonder - I'm not gay, etc.'; answer on the bulletin board or wall of the men's locker room. That'll let the rest of us know that he is in there.Do I let him down gently or nail his heart to the locker door?
    tell him you're happily married.
probably best to ignore it. if it happens again then just gently let him know that you're not gay and that you are happily married. although you are flattered by his advances
follow your true gay feelings and let this guy bang you....ya know you want it.
just let it go kiddo .. your married and your wife deserves your loyalty and you don't go there anyway so thats it anyway.. case closed...ohhh and theres a hole i the shower stalls and the girls next door were checking you out haha. ohhhh its a long one haha
    What do you wanna do?
maybe that was a woman? call and if it is a man insult him, but what if it is a beautiful, athletic woman? an amazon? think how much rough sex u can get! i am in body building i love rough sex. i presume all atheltic women do. good luck
    Nail it.
okay, who ever wrote you the note has some serious issues. I think that because it says ';I would LOVE to meet up with you'; kinda creepy. text the person and tell them to back off.
I know a lot of men that wouldn't take kindly to this.

I think I would give the number to the gym and have them deal with it. I wouldn't want to be in the ladies' locker room having some sex craved lunatic staring at me while I dress and then ask me out.

It is the same as sexual harrassment. Just of a different sort.

Now when you shower and go to get dressed you will be paranoid....was it that guy who left the note? Or that one?

I would feel uneasy. Same as if a man had a peep hole looking into the locker room while I dressed in the ladies' room.

  • How do i get my dog to settle down when i clip his nails?

my dog is a german shepherd and he is about 2 years old and i still have trouble keeping him still when i try to clip his nails. and he likes to bite me, I don't like that. How do i get my dog to settle down when i clip his nails?
My husband and I have this same problem with our 2 dogs. We have found that that it works well if we have our dog lay down one of us will sit on one side of him and feed him something (usually bread or peanut butter) while the other person sits on the other side and clips the nails on that side. Then we switch sides. Our dog is so interested in the food that he forgets he is having his nails clipped!!How do i get my dog to settle down when i clip his nails?
Positive reinforcement can help train your GSD to think of nail clipping as a good thing. Although this could be to late, as your dog is already two years old. You may still be able to do this, but it may more time. Start by giving your dog a small treat for sitting still while you play with his paws and holding the clippers. Then gradually add more action to it. I would recommend that you clip just one nail, treat, and then let him go for a while. Gradually increase the nails clipped until he enjoys it. Again this may take a long time, but it will be worth it in the end.
Take him to a professional groomer. They ususally don't charge much, they know how to do it and it is less stress on you and your dog.

I want a cut down on my acrylic nails?

I've already had them cut down once, and they're now to the point where they meet my real nail underneath. Could i still get them cut down?I want a cut down on my acrylic nails?
Yes you can still get them cut down if you want your real nails cut. when you get acrylic nails they are suppose to be at a length that you feel comfortable at. So when you go to the naile shop tell them you want them cut down to where you want.I want a cut down on my acrylic nails?
Yea sometimes you have to get them cut down a couple of times before there just the way you want them. I would go back to the nail shop %26amp; have them do it %26amp; next time if it happens you'll know how to do it. I say go for it.
Why not.. it will just cut your real nail shorter too. I used to just file mine down every couple days to keep them the length i liked.

What type of tools do i use to file down my turtles nails?

his nails get really long and get stuck in the carpet when he walks aroundWhat type of tools do i use to file down my turtles nails?
reptile nail clippers are sold at most pet stores, just ask a staff member about them. also, make sure you dont up to the darker part of the nail on your turtle because that is the nerve. most nature centers will offer you advice, or just do it for you if you ask. good luck :)

p.s. putting a rough rock in the cage may help with the natural filing downWhat type of tools do i use to file down my turtles nails?
I would use a Dremel rotary tool. That is what most dog people use on their dog's nails. It's quick and painless.
A course Emory Board. He won't mind.
a nail file or cut them down with a nail clipper
What type of turtle? This may be a habitat issue instead of a care issue.

If it is a water turtle, it should not be walking on carpet. If it is a land turtle, it should have rougher surfaces to walk on as well- stones, bark, etc. and may need the diet re-examined as well.

Generally, a properly cared for turtle should never need anything done to its nails.
    try a belt sander
You have a turtle? You let him loose in the house? Turtles have nails? You have carpet?
use a nail file..that should work

How do you get rid of mites face/body ,and down nails?

they burrow under skin .and the ones down finger nails /toe nails are very agressive. How do you get rid of mites face/body ,and down nails?
you mean body lice? Go to the pharmacy there is a cream for that. Scabies are a form of mites. The doctor will send you with a prescription, or try the pharmacy. Have someone go for you so you don't spread this to others. Stay away from your pets as you can give it to them. How do you get rid of mites face/body ,and down nails?
There are mites that live on your skin at the best of times. It would appear that you have something mroe than those and it would need something like R%C shampoo to deal with everything except the nails.
im not sure. maybe you should see a doctor and/or a dermatiolgist
    have you got SCABIES??????

What can I put on my dogs toe nails to prevent them from wearing down?

I just moved into a home and the entire backyard is cement. My dog loves to fetch a ball and love to run around the pool when the kids are swimming. But because he runs around so much he is having a problem with his toe nails wearing down to the point where they start to bleed. Is there something I can put on his nails to make them stronger. I don't want to keep him locked up when everyone is having fun, but I also don't want his poor little nails to bleed. Any thoughts! What can I put on my dogs toe nails to prevent them from wearing down?
You can get Soft Paws at most pet stores. They glue on the the nails. They some in different sizes and colors. What can I put on my dogs toe nails to prevent them from wearing down?
you could try the soft paws nail caps.. they do make them for dogs also! The caps may wear down on the cement as well tho.. seeing as how they are just a soft plastic.

Maybe you can find some kind of rubber mats, or that outdoor carpeting to put on the cement to help cushion things a little.
    Soft Paws are great!

Also, try the new Peticure Dog Nail Trimmer (get yours on Ebay because if you order from the main site it will take 4 - 8 weeks to come in!) - the nail trimmer actually *files* down the nails quickly, painlessly, safely and quietly - with a rotating emery board of sorts!

You'll actually need to trim your dog's nails first before applying the Soft Paws - so this is a fabulous investment as well!

Something else you may want to consider - have you ever been to a health club or children's play center and noticed that the floor was covered in rubber puzzle piece shaped mats? We have those in our home gym (garage) and they are WONDERFUL! Easy to put down, take up, clean and are weatherproof. They come in different sizes, widths, textures and colors and you can use them indoor or out. They really aren't that expensive when compared to the damage put on your dog's paws and nails! You can try Ebay (where we got ours) or possibly a sporting goods store. Sometimes they may even be listed under wrestling mats.

    Hope this helps!

    Warmly,

    Michele

What color should i paint my nails? hair up or down?

Tomorrow im going to the county fair with my boyfriend . And and i am either going to wear a green hollister shirt. or a baby blue aerpostal shirt. What shirt should i ware. what color should i paint my fingernails. and should i have my hair up or down? What color should i paint my nails? hair up or down?
definitely wear the green shirt. i would paint your nails deep purple, it is in right now, and i fell in love with the color the first time i put it on my nails! wear your hair down, but be prepared with an elastic to create an instant, cute updo incase it gets messy. What color should i paint my nails? hair up or down?
paint ur nails white.. they look super cute!! trust me!

most of the time i have them white..!
Please don't wear a label across your chest, you're paying to advertise for them. Just go with your instincts, this is not life/death.
pink nails are always cute, no matter which shirt you decide to wear. also, put your hair up because it's going to be hothothot!!!
if you have brown or green eyes

    wear the green shirt

paint your fingernails a pale pink or clear

and if you think you look better with your hair up

    wear it like that
    ew..dont listen to Missy.

wear the green Hollister shirt, paint your fingernails a flirty color, such as just a simple sparkly color, or dark plum or black.

if you straighten your hair, leave it down but if you have curly hair then put it in a half pony, or a regular pony.

    have fun! [:
u should wear the green shirt do ur nails either light brown or french. and wear Ur hair w/ what ever is more comfortable for what rides u are going 2 ride. if u don't ride anything then wear your hair down and fixed nice cause it won't get messed up. if u are going 2 ride all of the crazy rides wear ur hair up but very cutely up or do like 2 french braids (if someone can do it for u or u can do it yourself.) and put 2 little bows or ribbons at the ends to match ur outfit. like brown or white or something like that if there is a second color in your outfit like hollister words or something like that. good luck, look good, and have lots of fun.
Yeah i would wear the blue aero shirt , with either a skirt or jeans . And depending on the weather wear ure hair up if hot , and if its cooler wear it down %26amp;Paint your nails pink!
wear the aeropostale shirt with your hair up. paint your nails either pink or red.

Is it possible to slow down the speed that your nails grow?

My nails grow really fast, and they collect dirt.

I don't mind having long nails, but its like twice a week i have to cut them, and its annoying.

any help would be appreciated. Is it possible to slow down the speed that your nails grow?

Thats the same with me, Ive inherited Long - fast growing nails, and mine collect dirt aswell which is narsty for others to see. so i got to trim it down every so often, its often time consuming and i often put it off.

But no you cant slow down growth. just trim them every time they grow too long.

Does anybody have any ideas for spring break besides a party i already have that nailed down!?

Recovery would be high on my list. Borrowing money to to pay off the giant run ups on my credit cards might be next. And finally, a written resolution, to myself, never to be that stupid again.

Is there some way to slow down growth of nails?

When one gets older, it becomes harder to cut the toe nails especiallyIs there some way to slow down growth of nails?
No. Ask a relative to cut them.Is there some way to slow down growth of nails?
Malnutrition slows it down, but it's much easier to get them cut.
    cut them! or file them
    no

How can i get my hamster to file down his nails?

i recently noticed my hamsters nails are getting really long. he doesnt like to be handled and even when i took him into pets at home to see if they could tame him with me they nearly lost him because he ran away when they tried to pick him up. baring in mind i cant pick up my hamster and literally cut his nails for him is there anything i can buy or use that will file his nails? How can i get my hamster to file down his nails?
Here's an easy trick: put his water bottle higher up in the cage and put a brick underneath the water bottle so that he has to climb on top of it in order to drink. The brick will file down his nails little by little as he gets a drink. I would NOT recommend trying to trim his nails yourself for two reasons: (1) you could seriously scare the poor little guy and (2) with such small paws and nails and all of the squirming that is likely to be happening, it is just wayyy to easy to accidentally hurt the hammy. How can i get my hamster to file down his nails?
You will need to go to a local vet to have them cut professionally. My hamster had that problem too, I tried to file them down myself, with no result. Going to the vet and having this done can be quite distressing for hamsters, but it is necessary to ensure that the nails don't get as bad as to curl around and become ingrown. Hope this helps. P.S. Do NOT try to cut them off yourself, if hamsters nails are cut too short then this can cause bleeding and obviously many problems after this.
well all i can say is take out all the bedding and line the bottom of the cage with sandpaper and chase him around the cage for like half an hour. you'll groom him and he'll exercise at the same time
THERES A NAIL CLIPPER YOU CAN BUY IN THE PET SHOPS.

Also before you pick your hamster up let him sniff your hands and pet him gently do this a few times bfore picking him up then gently reach for him and pick him up..

    Good luck x

My cat had to be put down, fought it tooth and nail, help!?

she had fibromelonma, there was no other alternitive, however she was 13y/o acting like a kitten. when the vet gave the shot she bit the vet and hissed. i have a hard time beleiving i did the best thing for her because of this. i know its too late to do anything, but anyone that has a similar story to share may help!

thanksMy cat had to be put down, fought it tooth and nail, help!?
I know it is very difficult for this to happen when you love your pet so much. I did not have a similar experience, but my cat is 14 and when she goes in for a shot she hisses and bites the vet, so your pet could have just been doing that as well. It is not that she was fighting it, it was just the fact that it was a vet and she was getting a shot. I hope you understand what I mean. All my best to you, it might not help right now but time will heal, and there will come a day when you will remember all the good times and talk about the cute things she did in happiness and not in sorrow as you probably are right now.My cat had to be put down, fought it tooth and nail, help!?
She didn't like the needle being stuck in her, thats normal. Your cat is in a better place now and is thankful to not be in any more pain. If you hadn't done this what kind of life would she have? Pain is no life.

You did the right thing and you will forever remember the last and greatest gift you gave to her, relief from the pain. Im so sorry for your loss.
Hunni you did the right thing, I know its a sad time but u need not feel bad. If I was with you I would give you a huge hug for you courage
I know it's hard to accept this decision. It's very common for people to second guess themselves and play the what-if scenarios over and over. She was terminal regardless of how she was acting. You saved her from a horrible, tragic, pain-filled end with a very merciful, albeit difficult, choice. You could have spent tons of money but it wouldn't have helped. I applaude you for not making her suffer for your selfishness. She's waiting on you at the bridge and she's in very good company there. You made the right choice....
my heart go out to you , never easy to do the right thing when it means losing a friend
you did the right thing although hard to accept, you saved your cat from dying a very painful death.cats, especially if you have had them a long time, become family members.when we had our cat euthanised i had tears rolling down my cheeks,im a real strong man,but when you lose family it is very sad.always remember the cat.one day you may go get yourself another kitten and another love will grow in the family.dont dispair things will get better for you
I am so sorry for your loss but just think that she is not in pain anymore. Maybe you can find another cat to give you love too. I hope that don't sound lame.
oh, my dear, i know so well what you are feeling... i rescued a manx kitten (i always had wanted one) and he was so charming that it was DEEP love at first sight. sadly, it was but a day or two later that i noticed he had a very difficult and painful time going to the bathroom. i took him to my vet and was told he had spina bifida, a common problem with manx's. my vet gave me the option of letting him live or putting him to sleep. he told me that if he lived he would most likely suffer. oh how my heart didnt want to be hearing that. but my mind made the decision to let him go....however, my heart wouldn't let me accept it, i kept wondering if i took the easy way out, maybe i should have let him live. i did some research on manxs and spina bifida...and that helped me a lot in understanding that i made the right decision...but it still was one of the hardest things for me to get over...in a way i felt like manx breeders had betrayed me for never warning about it and letting me only see the cute healthy kittens. i know that as always God was the major reason i was able to heal so quickly, and i will say a prayer for you to.
aww my god that is so sad my heart goes out for you one time i had this caligo cat named patches she was a girl and everthing and she was pregnant with kittens anyways i she was outside and i was going to get her. as i went outside i was horrifyed my cat was in the rode and i saw a truck coming i thought the truck would slow down i was so far away i couldn't do nothing but the truck just sped up it went faster and the driver purposly hit my cat i hope that person is having a miserable life now people that kill cats for the fun of it or evil people
I know this is hard, I had to do something similar. I can tell you it never gets easy. I am still thinking what if I had tried harder to help her? Could I have done anything? The answer is no. My dog had to be put down because she was hit by a drunk driver.( the guy ran over me and my dog) My dog was in so much pain. The doctor said she would never be well again and my only option if i wanted to be humane was to put her out of her misery. I am still sad about it. I have lost 2 pets in my life a ferret to natural causes and a dog to a drunk it always hard. but I can be at peace knowing she is not longer hurting anymore. So I hope this helps you.
All the vets I have ever dealt with have always tried everything else before putting an animal down. They go into vet medicine because they love animals just as much as we do. So if the vet told you that your cat had a terminal disease and that putting her down was the thing to do, then you did the right thing. Maybe the vet hit a nerve when putting the needle in and it hurt the cat and caused the reaction. Usually when the animal is put down, they simply lay their head down and appear to go to sleep.

I am very sorry that you had to put your companion to sleep. It is a very hard thing to do and hurts your heart so bad.
i had to put my cat down (he was only 2 years old at the time) because he had a blocked urinary tract. The vet more or less told me that even if they did the surgery (that i couldnt afford anyway) that it could happen again. He had gone without signs of being sick up until it was too late so i had to put him down. Sorry about your loss my heart goes out to u

Just because it is in your nature, does not necessarily make it right.

It is in your nature...but, it may not be in your best interest.

    Where a condom.
Being a man is no excuse.Think about this. If your question began with ';I'm a woman'; people would call you a whore. Sex is a wonderful thing but letting it rule your life is not natural. You're compensating for things that are missing in your life.
LETTE is right, listen to that advice and follow it or else you would end up ';dead';.
EVERYTHING??! Oh boy, lock up your dogs!

I don't know about 'human' nature, it's just the way men are. OBSESSED WITH S E X !! You naughty boy, go and have a cold shower!

But 'KITTYLOVE' has a good a point, I recommend a redhead too !! GO KITTY GO KITTY WHOOOOO!!!!!!
As long as it has two legs, not four and, you control your urges, you could get the crap kicked out of you otherwise. Most males, as they mature and get past the age of, say, fifteen, loose these urges so, hang in there, it'll pass.

Boats, guns, fishing rods, things like this grow more important through time.
    guys and girls both?
    hump away big man.
good gravy Lette and right need to mind their own business. wanting something is one thing, what you do about it is another.

as long as you're not harassing 'everything you want to nail' you can at least try to relax on this. it's more or less your own nature. some people have higher sex drives than others and that's NOT wrong, it's your own 'chemistry' if you will.

you've probably also just not found anyone who could really match or satisfy that drive you have...stay safe when you do...nail (ie-condoms used WITHOUT QUESTION!!). and just relax-when it comes to things of a sexual nature, it's personal. so, HIGHLY considering your partners own rights are not imposed upon, you're the only one that can say whether having sex with every other person you look at is 'right' or 'wrong'

and if your drive cant be met by most, might i reccommend trying a redhead? ;) lol. this one's taken though, sorry.
well i hope everything that is walking the street has a pulse and is of the opposite sex (if the opposite sex is what u prefer). Well it isn't wrong and it isn't much of human nature since u don't see people being dragged off the street and into hotel rooms. But if u feel the need to do that go ahead what is stopping u?
Well, sorry to say, maybe you need a girlfriend!!! I'm sure it happens to many men, maybe women too. Most of the people I know right now are males, but they don't ever say anything like that, least not in front of me!! Haha, they keep it to themselves!! No actually, they are all decent people, but guys love to talk about things like that, including my bf!! I know what he talks about with the boys is not true, or we wouldn't have been together this long!! And it is great!!!

    Lori
Hey, You are Wrong in thinking so. This not a Complete Human Nature , but Animal Part of Nature which is a part of Human Nature.

    Infact Lette is 100% correct.
    yes, anything with a pulse.....nail em :)
It's that ol' drive to survive. Pesky in it's intensity...wait until you run into a woman who's biological clock is ticking down to the zero hour.
If you lust after a woman with your eyes, than you have commited a sin...you should repent and find a woman to marry....

How can I remove decking held down with spiral nails, I do not care if the decking is damaged in the removal.?

Well, like I said the first time, try using a cats paw to get under the head and pull it. If that doesn't work, Use a bar to lift the board away from the joist. If the nails are holding that well, they will pull through the deck board. This will not hurt the joist. After the board is off, either break off the nail or cut it off with a Sawzall. Hope this helps. How can I remove decking held down with spiral nails, I do not care if the decking is damaged in the removal.?
You'll need a large (3 foot) pry bar and another person to do this quickly. Start on the longer boards. Pry from the end to loosen the first row of nails. As you work your way down the board have your other person pull up on the part you just loosened. Between the pry bar and the leverage of the person pulling on the board they will pop right up. Some will break but it's off then isn't it?

You could hammer any remaining nails into the joist but you then run the risk of hitting that nail when you're installing the new decking. With that three foot pry bar you should be able to pry the nails up without much effort at all.How can I remove decking held down with spiral nails, I do not care if the decking is damaged in the removal.?
quick way is to run a power saw through the decking at mid point. hit the decking with a hammer and it will usually lift the nails, you will need a small wrecking bar as well to extract difficult nails
get a chainsaw and cut it up into carryable pieces if you just want to remove the whole thing. otherwise a large pry bar pulling the whole board, not just individual nails will get it done fairly quick
Use a large pry bar, when you get some up then use a sledge hammer to knock them up.

How can I file down my birds beak and nails?

My budgie is having trouble filing down his nails and beak so they are getting long and pretty bad, and I am getting worried. What are some effective ways to get them down without going to a vet or cutting them down myself? How can I file down my birds beak and nails?
Put cuttlefish in its cage it will do it itself with thatHow can I file down my birds beak and nails?
You can prevent the problem (or at least minimize it) naturally by using the following tips.

    For the Nails

    1) Provide a lot of rough and/or concrete perches for them to climb on.

    2) Provide a lot of incentive to climb around and get exercise (toys, foraging items, etc)

    3) Provide toys that encourage them to use their talons. This may be hanging toys that they have to grab and hold or foot toys.

    For the Beak

    1) The rough and concrete perches help here to because they'll wipe their beaks on the perch to clean them

    2) Providing a lot of soft foods (veggies and fruits) makes a messy beak and encourages wiping their beak on the rough perches.

    3) Provide a lot of foraging toys.

    4) Provide a lot of chew toys (wood, paper, cardboard, etc)

    5) Occasionally give them nuts to open up (help them by starting the crack if you need to)

These tips will go a long way toward helping to keep the beak and nails trimmed naturally.

If these don't work and you can't/won't take it to a vet. You can always learn to do it yourself. The easiest way to do it is to train your bird to allow you to use a Dremel tool. WARNING! Trimming the beak incorrectly can cause serious damage and death! If you damage the beak, the beak will become sore, and if the beak becomes sore, the bird won't be able to eat and if the bird can't eat ..... So I don't recommend this method on the beak unless you know what you're doing. You can also do serious damage to the nails if you don't know what you are doing. It is recommended that you at least take it to the Vet one time for trimming the beak and nails so the Vet can show you the correct procedure.

You can use Clicker training to easily train your bird to allow you to use a Dremel tool on it's nails. You can find more information on Clicker training at this link http://www.infosuperflyway.com/links.php鈥?/a> and this link http://www.infosuperflyway.com/birdinfo.鈥?/a> .
Buy your bird a sand perch. When they stand on it it files their claws so you don't have to.

Buy your bird ';cuttlebone'; and put it in its cage, It keeps its beak trimmed when it chews it, while receiving good calcium at the same time, they come in flavors too.

    I know.

DO NOT FILE WITH A HUMAN NAIL FILER!

They have certain perches that are edible and made with calcium and are flavored so you get one based on your bird's likes. They will have to get used to it and sometime you will maybe need to break a piece off and try feeding it to the bird. When the bird walks around on it, it'll file the nails.

Do not take it to a vet. It is a waste of money and time.
I would take him to the vet. It is not good if you trim either of them too short. Also birds chests are very delicate and they need to be restrained properly as not to hurt them. Best bet take them to the vet and let the professionals handle it.
