Our hardwood floor squeaks, how do I find the floor joists so I can nail it down?

you should first check the humidity level in your house. Radio schack sells a meter for about 20.00. 25 to 35% is good. the floor will shrink if the level is to low. Check twice for a crawl space access, if there isn't 1, look for a vent cut in to the side of the house at ground level. They are usually cut in between the joists. You have some kind of 3/4 flooring under the hardwood, so the joists are not that necessary to find. use the new trim screws (they have a small head and are easy to cover up with wood putty )and pre-drill the holes first. Our hardwood floor squeaks, how do I find the floor joists so I can nail it down?
it's gonna constantly be doing it as the house settles with age, so there's no use trying to fix it...it's part of the charm of having hard wood floors. Our hardwood floor squeaks, how do I find the floor joists so I can nail it down?
It has been fitted to tight. Remove the floor a bit at a time and take off 4 mm all around to give it room to move.
try pouring dish soap in the cracks and let it soak in to quiet the squeaks.
crawl under the floor boards to fix it.
