When installing nail down hardwood floors, is the 1/2'; expansion gap measured from the actual wall or drywall?

Also I am assuming this applies to all 4 sides, and not just the start and end walls, but I would like this confirmed. When installing nail down hardwood floors, is the 1/2'; expansion gap measured from the actual wall or drywall?
To answer your question, you need to leave the expansion gaps 1/2'; from whatever the flooring could actually touch. If the drywall is closer to the subfloor than 3/4'; then you measure to the drywall. If the drywall is more than 3/4'; from the subfloor then you measure 1/2'; from the wall. Also you should check the manufacturers installation instructions to see if the 1/2'; expansion gap is what they recommend. Also look in the installation instructions and see if there are limits on how much of a span the 1/2'; expansion gap is good for. Some manufacturers say that if you have over a 30 foot span you have to extend the expansion gap. When installing nail down hardwood floors, is the 1/2'; expansion gap measured from the actual wall or drywall?
you are correct. and the measurement is from whatever extends down into the same space as the flooring. If your drywall starts up above the floor, then measure from the studs. But if the drywall is all the way down to the subfloor, measure from the drywall.

Good luck!
your answer is from the actual wall unless the drywall is hanging down to the floor then you just go snug to the drywall
From the finished wall. All the way around the room.
