Why is it considered necessary to nail down the lid of a coffin?

In case it tips over while they're lowering it. Yes, it does happen. Besides, nails are much cheaper than latches, and there's no reasonable expectation that somebody is going to open the coffin after it gets buried anyway. However, I'm pretty sure that the higher priced metal caskets do have latches, only because you can't use nails on steel and the latches look nicer. So basically, when they use nails on your coffin, that means your relatives went for the mortician's ';cheap-@ss special of the week';.Why is it considered necessary to nail down the lid of a coffin?
The grave yard dogs are very clever and most powerful. They dig the grave and bite the dead body. Hence the nailing;and the solid structure over it.Why is it considered necessary to nail down the lid of a coffin?
so that you need not scare that person may get up even after death but according to saying when a dead person wakes up to life he tear offs the coffin
Cremation is better, no premature burial possible there.
maybe so that it does not slide off when they lower the casket! That probably wouldn't be nice to see if it was originally a closed casket memorial.

Have a great day!
